The rx-8 at idle??

Ok this is kind of weird and i dont know if its normal for an rx8 or if my engine is messed up and I just dont know it, but If I throw the car into neutral at like a light or something, the SOUND of the car is almost like it "revs up" but not like a FULL throttle rev, just like a little bit, is this normal, or something wrong with the engine?

Its really hard for me to explain, Like it revs, but not loud? haha I need to go find some sound clips

if its an automatic its normal....if its like a 100-200 rpms.....when its in drive theres a load on the engine thats why you have to hold the brakes at stop lights

is this the same sound as when your idling @ start-up? sort of sounds like an alternator going out in a piston engine?

if so, thats normal. (i hope)

Think I know what your talking about, when I start my car in my driveway. It revs up to about 2000rpms and slowly goes down. I noticed it only happens when I start the car on a slope.

Does it seem to rev once, or does it tend to go up and down?

When my engine went out it jumped between 500 and 1200 revs all by itself in neutral at stoplights, like it wanted to stall.

More info needed on your situation, as stated above.

Mine rpm fluctuates when the fan is on and the car is idling in neutral. If I turn the fan/ac/heat all the way off it usually returns to a smooth idle. It's done this as long as I remember so I call it normal.

This sounds like the car trying to warm up a little and is normal. If it doesn't do it when the car is cold and your not on a slope then you got me.

This has happened with every car I've owned. Idle starts out high when cold, drops to around 800 or so and stays there but once in a while goes up a bit and down a bit. i think it's normal.

Mine yo-yos, only when it's cold. Upon startup, I'll will cycle between about 1500 and 3200. Constantly, for about the first 20 seconds the car is running, and only when the clutch is engaged. Once it's warmed up, it's fine. I don't notice any performance issues, so I just assumed this was normal.
