is the RX-8 an 'FE'?

you know how people refer to the 3rd generation RX-7 as an 'FD' and the 2nd generation RX-7 as an 'FC', does that mean we can refer to our cars as an 'FE'?

thanks.

Heres a good thread to read if you are really interested in the Rx 7 and 8 chassis/engine codes.

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...6&highlight=FE

Some consider the 8 a FE, while some say it is a SE3P (read the above link)

Therei's a another thing that the "FC/FD/FE" coding symbolizes:

The user is a knowitall geek.

What's wrong with the model year and model name?

It's easier to say it's an FD, than explain that it's an RX-7, third generation with twin turbos.

I say SE3P. I'm too lazy to say the whle model year and model name, besides, it's fun to confuse people with them.

EX 1.
Me: Man, I've been busy working on my FC all weekend.
Clueless Friend: I thought you had an RX-7?

right now RX-8 should do just fine, since there's only 1 generation of it.....

if we ever get to a 2nd gen RX-8, then chassis code would become more relevant.... heh

i was in japan (i dont speak japanese) and at a place the specialized in tuning RX7's and I was trying to buy a part for my brother's FD. I kept trying to explain RX7 3rd gen to the guy. The first problem may have been that he didnt speak english, but I had a friend with me who spoke japanese. regardless, I didnt get anywhere. I pointed at a 3rd gen in the shop, and he was like.. FD!. I was like.. ok. Moral? None really, just a fun fact. That was when I learned what FD meant.

Geek speak.

If you guys worked in the computer business I'd issue you pocket protectors ...

Anyone worth their **** in rotary knowledge knows exactly what's under the hood of a 93 RX-7. an 85 RX-7 GS or a 2004 RX-8 MT6/GT

This is quite a controversial topic.
While most people believe the RX8 is designated FE, it seems most companies, especially Jap ones refer to it as a SE3P.

Do a search on google with either one and you will find that SE3P will bring up the 8 whereas FE won't give you anything vaguely related to it.

Yeah, but I don't place much faith in that card since they spell tire "TYRE", who knows what other glaring errors are present

"Tyre" is the British equivalent of "Tire". So it is not actually a spelling error.

Thats why I had a in there. I lived in Singapore for 6 years, they're all backwards there too because of the English influence.

As much as I hate to say it (because the RX-8 is *NOT* in the RX-7 line), since the "FC", "FD", etc, refers to the VIN sequence, 3rd gen RX-7s began "JM1FD", and my RX-8 begins "JM1FE", the RX-8 *IS* an "FE".

But we all know that it is a decendent of the 2nd gen Miata, right?

I guess the 4th gen RX-7 will be the "FF".
