it is designed to use oil to lube the motor. I check my dipstick every 3-4 fill up. Usually add about 1/3 of a quart then.

Oil is injected into the combustion chamber to lubricate the internal seals. This oil comes from the engine sump. You should be checking your oil level at least every other fill of gas. You may not need to add oil at that time, but you need to check.
This is a very basic question. You need to start reading the FAQ's and the forum Stickies to get up to speed on the car.

it's normal for the RX8 to use oil. Search around a bit on this forum and read your owners booklet.

tom: welcome to the forums!

The first thing I would suggest is to sit down and read your owner's manual. Please don't take that as a jab at you, but it's actually what I recommend to all new owners. There's a ton of good info in there and it even adresses the oil consumpion. (which is normal)

Second, I'd recommend checking out the search function on this forum. I find that there's an answer to almost any question a new owner might have.

yup!

go to www.mazdausa.com.
- click on owner's section
- register with site (you'll need your VIN, have your registration handy)
- you can download a PDF version.

You have had your 8 for more then a month now. Just where was the oil level on the dip stick? There are 1.8 quarts between the two marks so when it gets down below half you can add one quart. You don't have to keep toping it off, just don't let it get below the low mark. The manual is your friend....

The Renesis has an Oil Metering Pump (OMP) that injects a small quantity of oil into the engine to help lubricate its rotary parts by design. So no, the RX-8 DOES NOT "eat" oil. Historically, old engines, or poorly designed engines, or poorly maintained engines have been known to "eat" oil, which is NOT what the RX-8 does.

(Thread titles like this ("rx-8 Eating Oil?") are one of the reasons the RX-8 gets a bad reputation… just the words a newbie quickly researching the car needs to see. )

I disagree.
If the title were, "OMG, RX-8 eats oil!!!!" then I could see it scaring newbies off. This at least has a "?" at the end which implies that he's asking. Newbies 'quickly searching' are inquisitive little creatures so I'm sure they'll click on the link and see our answers.

forums like this one are meant to help one another,or I'm wrong, all I'm saying this is the only place were you get bash just for asking a question, and your right the person should do a search, but if he did'nt ,at least give him the answer or tell to do a search or something not just stupid replies like that, just because somebody might be asking a dumb question does'nt mean there stupid maybe they just need some guidance, unless your were born with the almighty knowledge of the 8.

p.s.

Sorry if it seems I'm trying to hijack the thread,it is not my intecion at all.
