Amazing how many other scientists and engineers there are here.
Meteorologist, 37 y.o., with 5 children. I bought my RX-8 almost 3 years ago to have something fun to drive (the minivan doesn't cut it), but would also fit some kids in the back with relative ease (I tell my wife it's a practical car). Fits my lifestyle perfectly. I like that it requires a little extra attention, and there aren't many others on the road.

44 year old interior designer and mother of 2 teenage boys!... grew up with sports cars, LOVE to drive. Had to give up the motorcycle and my need for speed was fulfilled on 4 wheels with the 8. I get a kick out of all the 20 something yr olds who pull up next to me at lights or on the expressway and want me to race them in their "ricers" - not my thing. I love the back roads at over 100mph and curves at "mach Jesus" alone, just me and the road. Have to admit - the car gets a lot of attention and my "cool mom" status went through the roof when I drop the boys off at their school. I get a lot of "tell your mom I want her car...."

Seems like the 8 is more popular with lady drivers than I thought. ;p
27 year old retail manager here. I wanted an 8 from the time they were released.
Not that it matters, but I am the tattoo nerd. Almost a full sleeve on my left arm, also have a chest piece ... I'm a little more edgy and unique - the car fits me!

I'm a 30 yr old truck driver that's always loved cars from day 1. My first car was a 1987 golf with a whopping 55 HP :P then a Nissan 100 NX (with the targa roof) a Honda CRX, RX-7 then after moving to the states I bought a Toyota celica for the wife and the RX-8 for me. I've always loved the lines of a good sports car and Ferrari, Aston Martin and Lamborghini aren't in my budget yet, I find the RX-8 has the same supercar looks.

My wife is from Canton Ohio lol. Girls and their family crap lol! I agree with you on the celica. It's a great car. We have an '01 GT and only things that I've had to do is replace 2 batteries and tires in 7 years. Fantastic car. I've had my 8 for about 16/17 months now. No problems so far. (Other than my car beeping at me all the time :P)

I'm basically a field tech for Carter Cat ^Thus why I said my truck's a bit different, haha. It's a KW with a huge box on it. What I don't understand is why I don't have to have the hazardous materials endorsement, when I'm carrying hundreds of gallons of oil. I mean, it may not be hazardous, but I'd figure something, if it's practically a tanker. If every tank is full, it's around 1,000g. We try to avoid that for overweight fines, though.
As far as the girls with 8's thing.. There's a girl around here who drives a VR Rx8 just like mine, but I never see her when I'm driving my Rx8, always when I'm on the clock driving my behemoth of a truck.
Girls who drive Rx8's, or any rotary, are instantly keepers.

Nice thread.
I fall squarely within a couple groups in this thread (military; nerd), so I guess was destined to own an RX-8.
And just like someone else in here, I was open to get anything, with the wife's stipulation that it had to have backseats, for when I have to pick up/drop off kids.

Yeah, I got an Rx8 because I knew on down the road, if I had an FD, the future wife whenever I get one would want me to get rid of it for something with back seats. And I've always loved the Rx8 since it came out, so I had no problem avoiding that future disagreement.
Kind of neat though, seeing everyone's actual professions, how vastly different some are.

Ask me about my wankel
This has been a neat thread to get an idea of what other 8 owners are like. We obviously all agreed on this car, but what would be interesting is a thread on what car we would get if we ever decided to get something other than an rx8. I bet some of the responses would be surprising.

hot mama's rule- my girlfriend is a 20yr old hot mama she cant drive the 8 yet though. perfect car for my lil family. have a 10 month old son. work as a quayside supervisor in the oil industry and study full time too, at uni getting my honours degree in business management. the rx8 never crossed my mind to be honest until i saw one advertised. i bought it within 2 hours - had to get a plane to get it too lol talk about impulse. i guess im quite a nerd when it comes to gaming- used to play wow, sc, diablo2, etc etc.

59 1/2 year old retired fuel distributor with a life lesson from the EPA, and DPS.
Was delivering fuel in Austin Tx in 1973, and taking flying lessons. I saw the rotary engine model at the UT campus, so I bought a RX3, and kicked the lessons. Driving the RX3 at 120 mph seemed safer than the Cessna at 120 mph.
In 1980 I put all my dreams on the back burner, sold the RX3, and tried to please the wife.
So after exchanging her for a newer model ( the wife), I ran the business until I got weaker ( mild CMT MD ) , and I was drinking too much.
Then, my wife kept saying: We need a new car so my friends don't look down to me...... WTF? Ok, I found "her car" at the Mazda dealer across the street, and I discovered that the RX8 was what I'd missed all those years. I found out a year later I could even track it!
My aptitude test at age 15 showed I pegged the 99 percentile of others in US on mechanical ability, so I should have gotten a mechanical engineering degree. I like the trail I made, and could solve mechanical and oiling issues all day long.
I can easily read through all the stuff on this site, and aligned my car just the way I like. It even excites me enough that I don't need to drink anymore; a new kind of 12 step!

19 years old. Full time student majoring in mechanical engineering at a small school in Georgia, and transferring in a year or two to Georgia tech. Also, I work part time as an intern with a group of engineers at Volkswagen in Chattanooga! Love it!

Had no idea all these brilliant individuals drive 8's lol.
I'm 26 and I make adult films hence the name dirkyd3rk (as in dirk diggler). Lol
OK I'm kidding but I received my bachelor of sci in poly sci from university of Houston. Currently working in the woodlands as a management analyst. I love Linux and i play around with java (android) such as compiling from source and building kernels.
