This is an interesting topic to think about, Before I bought one I thought most of the people driving them would be 25-35 years old. I think the general demographics is shifted a bit older then that but we dont hear from 90% of the RX-8 drivers on the road.
This car is not for the light of heart most people that are not the hands on type of guys dont keep the 8s around for long.
I have always wanted a rotary and it took me about ten years before I was in a place where I could, Now I own two 8s . Coming from a Miata background Those owners were Much different then us not in a bad way just different.
I bet there are many other guys on this forum that were avid followers of Sport Compact Car magazine.

49 year old VP of IT. I've always had sports cars and always wanted to try a rotary. With two kids the wife said I could get whatever I wanted as long as it had 4 seats. So the stars seemed to aline for the RX-8.
I don't get a chance to work on the car as much as I would like but in time I will. Besides automobiles I also enjoy 3D art &b animation, rehabbing, camping and am just starting to dabble into electronics (building things).

I hate to say it, but there is definitely a component about the car that attracts engineers/scientists/nerds and so on. Not that that's a terrible thing....but you don't see hollywood stars buying them, jus a different sort of image, and the highlights about the car are all in the realm of technical aspects or subtle performance qualities, not more obvious and popular stuff.
Something about a unique vehicle that we have to explain the fundamentals of to everyone we meet must attract us.

Yep - when I interviewed for my current job (5 years ago, fresh out of college) during one of my interviews I actually drew a diagram on a whiteboard of how the rotary engine worked... The guy who was interviewing me had a number of model cars on his shelf and pictures of his trans-am all over. Since then he and I have become pretty good buddies

Its very true... almost everyone that owns an RX-8 seems to be an engineer/scientist/doctor/technician in a technical field. I'm a 30 year old senior software engineer, mostly writing in Java these days. I swear, half of my friends own RX-8s, all of them high IQ nerd/dork tech types.

30y/o ...um...support tech? Analytics, data, investigations with a heavy dose of hardware/software/electronics/electrical/mechanical/network technician thrown in.
Not really a subject matter expert at any one area, but quite good in just about everything technical.

31 years old. I went to school for networking, computer repair, computer programming. After that went to the military and got into combat engineering. As of now I am an Automotive repair tech and extremely happy with it since I've been helping out in my friends and families garages since I was 16 lol.

So far from what I have seen on here most of us are Ex-Military.
Sounds like what I do! My official title is electronic engineering supervisor. I now have my own office but no one to supervise...

Living In The Past

52 year old technical department head for a manufacturing company, recently divorced. This is my second rotary car, the first was an RX-7 purchased BN in late '79. My background is art, architecture, and engineering.
Although I've also been a cartoon animator in another life (Thundaar the Barbarian credit) back in the pre-computer days, as well as a lab technician, graphic illustrator, pattern & tool maker, and teacher. You live long enough, you explore a lot of fields.
I still have no idea what I want to do when I grow up.
I don't think the car attracts any demographic in particular. Every 8 owner I've met has been fairly different.

I guess i fall into the majority so far, i'm a 26 yo Senior Network Security Engineer, picked up the rx8 because the deal fell into my lap but also because i've always been a big fan of how rotaries work (I'm one of those who loves showing people how it works). I have three children but somehow tricked my wife into the purchase so lucked out there. I notice that most of the people in my area that own RX8's are either really young or quite old, no a lot of middle aged.
