RX-8 Discontinued after 2007?
So I have my 04 RX-8 GT with only $12K miles in for th recall. While they were checking it out, I decide to test drive a CX-7. I have 2 kids, so the 8 has never been very practical. Net, the CX-7 has some appeal to me.
Anyway, the sales guy mentions to me that it may be a good time to get out from under the RX-8 anyway since Mazda is discontinuing it after the 2007 model. This is the first I've heard of this.. I can't find anything on the web mentioning this fact either.
Does anyone know if this is true or was he basically just trying to 'sell' me on the CX-7?
BTW: after getting the RX-8 recall service the car seems peppier and smoother running..
Thanks!
KF

He's as bad as Can
There are people on this board way more connected to Mazda news than a sales guy. There has not been one RX-8 related thing I can remember that didn't come out here first. Never trust what a Dealership employee tells you.

That was my first thought ...He just wants to move cars... I admit, he did have me thinking more and more after that, but the second I start-up my 8, I totally dismiss the idea of parting with it regardless if it get's discontinued!

Write to Mazda NA and ask them. Tell them the dealership name, and then tell them that you were going to tell a friend to buy an RX8, but not now that it's going to be discontinued.
I'm sure they'll love to hear that.

Swings both ways, I guess.
My dealer seemed to have a generous stock of RX-8s, MX-5s, and the other stuff that Mazda makes.
I also had a CX-7 for the day, and I liked it well enough. I certainly wouldn't trade my 8 for it, though. But I don't have two kids anymore.

Even if it's not bogus, he wouldn't know about it before us. It would be pure coincidence if it happened. Dealers would love for you to trade in every 5 days if they could get you to do it.

Cancellation of a car like this will actually help resale values in the long run. Just go try to find a nice Z, or Supra, and see how much it costs. The Supra of course is an anomoly, as they sold so few because it was only bought by idiots who beleived a Toyota was worth $50K. Those same idiots are buying the used ones today.

That's what I meant mysql101. Seems the RX-8's are selling well enough these days.

Bah, let them discontinue it - I have the car I want.
I think they are misinforming you. It's really in their best interest, but it's a terrrible misrepresentation. Call them on it.

True dat. Discontinue it. Raised the market value of Rx-7s dramatically when it happened. Ive got my car too and it should last 12 years at my current rate of 7K miles per year.
