RX-8 : To BUY or NOT to BUY? Please help!
Hey Restiller,
Funny you should have that deer warning on the tach ( I love it ) When I was on my first Rx8 test drive the only thing that was able to wipe the ear to ear grin off my face was the deer. Yeah a deer jumped out in front of us as we zipped down a country road. Fortunately the 8 is superb at E stops...the deer was spared....and aside from the salesman's skid marks ( not the 8's) all was well.

^^thanks. just trying to give my avatar a more "holiday" theme.
What got me grinning on my first test drive was making a right turn at 35mph. Specifically, when the car STUCK like it was on rails, that was when I grinned and fell for the 8. I still remember warning the saleslady "Just to let you know, I'm going to take this corner a little hot."
The test drive will give you the answers you need.

To buy or not to buy: That is the question.
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous gas milage,
Or to take arms against a sea of pistons,
And by opposing end them?
Buy an 8.

I just got an '07 in the summer so only 4-5 months with it. Everything is perfect. Only one mazda dealership in my town and I drop by almost every week to talk, bring them coffee, and sometimes to get this or that installed. Created a really good relationship with them all and feel totally confident that if I ever need anything, they'll treat me good. But I have no fear and would have completely regretted not getting the rx-8. I think if you get an '07 or '08 you won't have any problems that can't be easily fixed.
I sold my BMW Z3 Coupe 2001 to get my 2005 RX8. RX8 win hands down... handling, ride comfort, shifter, clutch, sound of the motor, repair costs etc.
I sold the Z3 because it had just gone out of warranty and small things were costing big $$. I've had good luck with my Mazdas... 2 x 2007 MX5 (son and myself) and a family '05 Mazda 6. All been very good.
The only thing the Z3 had over the RX8 is a little better gas mileage and more torque.
My Z3 didn't have the subframe cracking... but that problem in Z3 and 3 series models probably happens more than the engine problems that occurs on '04 RX8 prior to their fixes.
Bottom line: I made the right choice and enjoy driving the 8 much more than the Z3.
Go for it!
