'RX-8' boot message
I think I've read something about this but I can't remember where.
How hard would it be to reprogram the lights that say "RX-8" when you turn on your car? I have a feeling you'd have to mess around with the flash. It'd be cool if there was some sort of firmware hack that let you download your current flash, change the boot string ("Rx-8"), and then program the flash back. If there's NOT something like that...hmm. Sounds like an opportunity. I bet I could figure something out if I had enough time/motivation.
Anyway, no point in re-inventing the wheel. Anyone know of a current solution?

No, but doesn't that sound like a lot of work to change the 2.5 seconds when it says rx8?

Absolutely. But spending a lot of time on small, insignificant projects has never stopped me in the past. Once the program that lets you hack is finished and polished, it wouldn't take much time to change the message, though. Just pop the chip out, upload the code, change the string, reprogram. Would take about 5 minutes. I just think it'd be fun to have a custom message.

It would only be worth it if you could sneak into someone's elses car and leave a message.
Imagine their face when they started the car and the message said "your driving sucks" or something.
Now that would be funny.

everything is hackable , it depends on how much time and money you want to blow. You might try asking thew or some of the other guys at mazdaparts.com. They offer the flash upgrades, and if anyone might have access to the ability already to alter or edit the flash and the right equipemtn it'll be them.
