Also, you made the silly claim of hanging with STIs and Evos, you do realize those cars can do 0-60 in mid 4s don't you and have been know to dip into the very high 12s in stock form?
In the high 12s in stock form

Maybe, hypothetically, down a steep hill behind the tail wind of Katrina... hypothetical nonsense.

Do you realize you just contradicted your own argument? I give you a 5 out of 10 for this one...

"Real Data" vs "Cousin VinnyWRX"

Consumer Reports "Hypothetical Nonsense" Tested 12/03.

No hypothetically perfect launch by your "cousin vinny", no perfect executed abusive clutch drop to kill your tranny, no hypothetically perfect conditions, just REAL driving conditions tested by expert testers, unswayed by profit or dependency on advertising dollars...

0-60mph.....1/4mile.....35-65mph.....Car
5.3s.............14.0s.......3.5s..............EVO
5.2s.............13.6s.......3.1s..............STi
5.4s.............14.0s.......3.7s..............350 Z
6.7s.............15.2s.......4.9s..............RX-8
if you go to evo and sti forum, you'll see most of them can hit 13s in 1/4 mils with stock, that's why they complain comsumer reports drivers didn't push the all power out. even in 350Z forum does the same thing. car and drive is better though.

You mean a clutch drop every time, lets be realistic here, who drops it perfectly at every drag. You pay $35,000 for a car and ruin the trans/clutch/diff at every punk in a ricer who wants to drag. That doesn't make sense.

Do you fully drop your clutch at every testosterone competition? I highly doubt that, and there's nothing "hypothetical" here, you might miss a gear, get caught off your guard, you lose at the line. Someone may drive in front of you in traffic.

Those times are for near perfect launches done everytime. So your saying you never screw up or conditions change where you can't get your best launch. What can go wrong will go wrong. I live in an imperfect world, chance are you do too.

Yeah, I'm sure those few guys that have claimed to run 12.9s are making it up. So are the guys that ran 13 flat, 13.1, 13.2, 13.3, clearly your magazine racing is the end all be all of factual evidence. You got me man, Evos run 14.0 and STis 13.6 (the best either car could hope for is mid 13s), and your hypothetical RX-8 with gears, some shitty ECU mod, high flow cat, and a flywheel is just as fast.

Nice edits by the way.

I guess most of us purchased the 8 NOT for 0-60 times. As we know it is not that impressive for a sports car.. However, we love the 8 for everthing else!

0-60 and quarter mile times for most all cars of all years:

0-60 and 1/4 mile times for stock cars

PS- The STi and EVO have both dipped below the 5 sec mark in countless road tests I've read. I've got a 4.4 reading for a EVO RS in I believe Motortrend.

Of course, with a nice new clutch and perfectly broken-in fresh tires, on a warm 90 deg day so the tires stick, with good high octane gas, with a perfect launch, in no traffic, with a free car donated to an Auto Mag to go hog wild with.

What happens to your launches with 10K miles on your tires, after 65+ abusive clutch drops your clutch isn't as tight as it once was, with low octane gas since you didn't want to pay $2.85/gal for the premium? If you are still making payments on it, you own and baby the thing and possibly think twice about killing your tranny to prove a point. It's 50 degs out and the tires don't grab as well on your older tires. What about the possiblity of having three passengers along when its time to drag? More weight = slower 0-60. What if your caught out of boost and need a few secs to boost up again?

This is real driving, not a "hypothetical" high 12s 1/4mi launch on a STOCK STi that my cousin Vinny proclaims. Deal with it Ike, the STi is fast, but not as fast a your pipe dream fantasy grand turismo, hypothetically.

That's quite the slippery slope you have there. Also, repeating yourself over and over again isn't going to make your argument valid...

As an avid motorcycle racer and track junkie, I know that with my bike, being a V-Twin engine, it produces peak torque and HP right around 8.5-9K rpm before it drops down. Riding the engine to redline around 12K is complete waste. But motorcycles with I4 engines produce more power at higher RPMs, so you redline those to get peak performance. Its more engine dependent than anything else...
There certainly are some exceptions, but most cars (even if the redline is past the peak hp) will run faster times by pushing to to or close to the redline. More often than not even if the hp drops a bit up top it puts you closer to the sweet spot in following gear. The WRX is certainly that way, but the STI could go either way and some claim to have improved on their times by shifting around 6700. Anyhow, here's a thread that discusses just that and also happens to have one of the guys that has run a 12.9 stock (YBnormal).

Are you retarded or something? If you're going to insult me at least do it without repeating yourself ad nauseum. That method of antaganization may have worked for you in the 3rd grade but it's time to move on.

"Retarded", "Insult", "3rd Grade", and "Antaganization (sp?)"

By the way, great use of a Latin phrase ad nauseum.

I give you 3 out of 10 for creativity.
