The only way a car gets a salvage title is if it's totaled. So don't worry about them saying it can be fixed but still declaring anything on the title. If they do total it, they may give you the option of buying it back as salvage. Go along with that only if you're interested in an amusing hobby.

I knew a couple of people who had flooded cars that were paid off as total. One tried to cross a stream at a ford, the other rolled down a boat ramp into a lake. The insurance companies just gave them the remains. Fortuitously worked out well for both, but neither vehicle was something classy like an RX-8. That was also well before the days of electronics, etc.

don't take the dumbass award of the day man, don't let the guys on the forums talk down on you. Sorry that happened though, that's way shitty.

I'd start looking for new cars just in case.

Suck!

You of all people should know when you drive, you'd like to avoid the water hazard!

Let us know..............it might just be salvageable if it got no higher than in that pic. Probably best if they go ahead and total though. Stink is hard to remove and I'm sure you have electrical issues sooner or later.

I would have gotten out of my car and told him to suck a dick, but I also don't drive through standing water.

We all make mistakes, just thank your stars you weren't hurt and that you have GAP coverage so you won't be underwater (no pun intended) on the car if it gets totaled. If it helps at all, my Mom's car was in water about as deep as yours, it was a 60,000 mile or so Infiniti, they totaled it without too much thought for some of the reasons explained above.

Good luck, and hope everything works out.

in the future, that moment is when you calmly put your arm out the window and wave them around. If they can't find their way around you then they've got a personal problem . Never put your property at risk for some impatient road raging jerk.

Best of luck with your insurance company, hope they cut you a check and you can find another.

That sucks dude, that's why I avoid going through downtown like the plague when it starts raining like that. I almost flooded my car trying to get to crosstown but I managed to back out in time. I could literally hear my exhaust bubbling underwater.

No damage though. I didn't realize there were so many 8 club members in Charleston though.

That really sucks.

Here in Phoenix (and in Vegas), they have some pretty strict laws and penalties about getting stuck in flood water. People see a wash and think "hmm, its not that deep" and end up getting sent down stream.

I think you need to send that car to its grave - it will never be right again and will start to have increasing and pervasive issues.
