No. There are some other common causes such as bad ignition coils. What did the dealer say?

After they put on my fuel pump, on the way home, from the dealer It stalled for the first time ever. Finally got it to start, engine was sputtering.Had to have it towed back to the dealer .By looking at the discussion topics,I told them to check my cat, compression of motor, coils, .Called this afternoon, they told me my compression was fine , cat was fine, and they have drove it at least 25 miles with no problems. They said it might be a vaccum problem......Any suggestions????

I'm in the same boat as you man so I can't add anything, but I can say that you're not alone.

Atleast your dealership tried something a little evasive, mines only "changed the computer" and done millions of flashses.

if the dealership isn't willing to, change out the spark plugs and coils.

a rough idle is also commonly caused by engine mounts going south.

I like using FP60 type fuel cleaners, it makes the engine feel smoother.

someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard that an 04 engine actually runs much rougher than an 05, 06 or 07 due to different motor mounts. I have an '04, and it has run rough for 30,000 miles (since I've got it) with absolutely no issue with power or reliability.

Do you have an 04?

the motor mounts can melt due to heat. the replacement one has a shield on it.

you shouldn't feel any engine vibration at idle in the chair or in the car besides the shifter.

Is replacing the engine mounts an expensive repair? I just got an 04 with 32,000 miles on it, and it idles pretty rough.

Engine mounts are covered under your warranty. It should be free at the dealer.

my car has a slightly rough idle. it definitely idles a lot smoother than say, my previous car (95 lebaron) but i can tell its not idling like it should. it goes through waves of of successively rougher idling, then it calms for a second, then starts over.

i've had 2 md state inspections in the 4 months that i've had. 1 from the dealer, 1 from another mechanic, both checked the motor mounts and said they were fine. im due for an oil change, should i take it to the dealer and complain?

Yes. They'll check it. It may not be the motor mounts.

That depends on who or what you are getting off of...

[sorry about the dangling participle, but that was the only way to make that joke work, IMO]

Rough idle could be bad coils as well. I assume this is not another joke post.

Could be the plugs.
It could also be the spark plug wires.
Or it could be the ignition coils.
Or, it could be a bad fuel injector.
Or maybe even low compression in that rotor face.

You need to check out all the possibilities for a misfire.

If you just bought the car, you are probably going to be better off if you invest in either new plugs, wires, and coils all in one shot, or a spark tester plug to test which parts might be bad, and replace just the ones needed.

Misfires will lead to the early death of not only the rotor that they are happening in, but also the catalytic convertor, if installed in your car.

BC.
