Rotating tires and scheduled maintenance

I just assumed that a rotation every 7500 miles was covered by our free scheduled maintenance dealie, but I just noticed that it's not listed on either schedule. Strange, considering that in the same section it specifically recommends rotating every 7500 mi (12000 km). Has anyone reached 7500 and attempted to get this free? Or am I just wishfully thinking, and no one else thought it was included?

Great! I felt like it should also be included, but got concerned when it wasn't with the rest of the stuff. Boy, this deal just keeps getting sweeter. I just wonder how hard it's going to be to convince them to do it at 5000. That'd be nice.

It shouldn't be hard at all. As per Mazda, it is up to YOU, not the dealer, to choose either the 5k or the 7.5k schedule.

From what I've seen of the oil after 2k, I'll choose to have it and the filter changed every 2.5 - 3k with the freebe every 5k.

I got the free oil change at 5000miles and and returning very soon for the free tire rotation at 7500miles. Anything else I can get?

I have already gotten the slotted plugs and the oil pan.

ok, i'm lost. this is probably a really dumb question but i apologize in advance. when you guys say free tire rotation, is it because you were part of the buyback program or is this part of the 4yr/50K warranty? my dealer only gave me 2yrs worth of free oil change....

sounds like your dealer threw in 2 years of free oil changes. the free tire rotations are part of the free scheduled maintenance for people that bought the car before august 2003. i forget the exact date. i might note that i called yesterday to schedule my 5000 mile servidce and the guy said its 7500 miles and i said no i have free scheduled maintenace and i can choose 5000 or 75000 miles and he agreed and said your tires will be rotated too. mazda gave me a free maintenance card to show the service guy when i go in. im sure its on record but this way i just show him the card.

Tire rotation is not included as part of the free maintanence program, check the TSB, so they can charge for it if they want.

my dealer said its included so thats good enough for me. he even showed me the tire rotation schedule which is part of the maintenance schedule. my dealer is also a stickler and goes by the book so i doubt he would do it for free if he didnt have to. if your dealer is making you pay for it i'd complain.

Again, look at the actual TSB, it is not listed. I agree they should do it for free but if they balk they can make a case against doing for free....

i am well aware of the TSB and i agree it's not there but i remember the dealer showing me an addendum to the maintenace schedule that was for the rotations. he may be misinformed but thats his problem.

That would be a great piece of info to post on the board if you can get a copy. It will give some of us fire power for those dealerships unwilling to do it. Thanks.

I had to bitch, gripe and whine to get them to do it at 5000. They said come back at 7500 and they'd do it, but they finally (grudging) did it at 5000. At 10K, they wrote it up with me having to ask. It'll be a showdown at 15,000. I'm gonna tell 'em do it with a smile or I will take my free service to someone who will. This was Hine Mazda in San Diego. The treadlife on these OEM tires is so short I don't want to wait for 10,000 or 7500 intervals.

When I asked through the RX-8 support line back in August or September about what was included in the free scheduled maintenance program, I was told it included everything listed in the owner's manual for scheduled maintenance plus tire rotation even though rotation isn't listed in the table. Tire rotation should be covered.

I just had mine in for the 5000 mile service and they (the dealer) offered to rotate the tires (free of charge). However, I had just put my winters on, so I told them not to.

Tire rotation is on page 8-24 of the Owner's Manual. The NOTE on that page states that it's recommended that rotation be done buy the dealer. I think this is the basic reason it is (or should be) included with scheduled maintenance.
