Fricking thing was in the middle of the lane......I was following a van which had the clearance. I didn't. And there was no time to react. Luckily, my mechanic said there was no damage mechanically.

You were reaaaally lucky... in my case it wasn't a battery... a lava rock fell off of a trailer... about 24 inches in diameter.... long story short... $13,500 in damage...

Entertaining write-up... nice.

Damn I bet that thing made some horrific noises going under your car. That's the suckage.

You sure the RX8 has more torque?

Yeah, what the hell? Did it just fall out of the engine bay on some clunker, or what?

There is an Interstate battery distributor just around the corner. I tend to think it may have fallen off one of their trucks, since they only have two ways out from their lot.....head west, or head south on the 281 South access road, which is right where the battery was. I would guess that maybe an old battery fell off one of their trucks.........but there is no way I can prove it.

The other possibility is that since there is a major construction project at that corner, constructing a Loop 410/Hwy 281 interchange, maybe it is used for construction and fell off a truck.

I really don't know.....I would lean toward believing that it wasn't tossed in the road on purpose.

Sucks! Glad to hear there was not mechanical damage. I ran over a pylon once in my Integra it got stuck under there and I had to stop and pull it out.

Op - I can empathize. I made one of those level-changing right turns from a stop. As I completed the turn I heard a clunk and then this horrible dragging sound. My car had just been to Mazda for its 4th tail shaft seal.

My first reaction was something in the drive train dropped. I cursed the Mazda techs. Then I realize that my car moved when throttle was applied. Wtf? So I figure my exhaust dropped. I cursed the Mazda techs again.

Middle of DFW rush hour and I manage to get the car pulled over in a center lane. I get out and look under the car. "WTF? My battery fell out of my car?!? Wtf?" Wait. It can't be my battery.

So here I am wrestling a leaking battery from under my car. The battery is winning the fight. Acid is reacting with the dirty asphalt and splattering all over me. The hell with that.

There was a strip mall with elevated entrances on the other side of the road. I drove across, hit an entrance at an angle and managed to dislodge the battery.

OP - you faired a lot worse than I. My damage - one slightly deformed under tray, skin irritation, ruined shirt and shorts.

Road bump batteries suck.

Sorry to hear about this. Reminds of a story I read in a major auto magazine a long time ago when pranksters got the idea it would be "funny" to place a console television set on a highway in the middle of the night (console TV's had solid wood cabinets back then). The auto mag was testing a new Mercedes at the time and, unfortunately, they did some of their road testing at night. Damage was not pretty. They didn't own the car, but still... the prank was criminal.
