Ritchie's First Rx-8

Hey Everybody

I just recently put a down payment on an rx-8 and am looking forward to driving it soooooooo bad since its winter here I HAVE TO put some really really really good snow tires on it if I'm to drive it at all if anyone has any tips or anything for driving in the winter that would be great ? Also I live in calgary alberta canada so the winters can get pretty bad here, I'm contemplating leaving my rx8 in the garage until winters done and just driving my beater but man oh man it feels like I just cant wait until i can get that thing out on the highway. But any suggestions would be great since I will be new to this whole thing. I have been doing alot of research on the car to like you have to let it warm up before turning it off and even giving it a bit of cool down helps oh and that you should use premium fuel but if you have any suggestions, tips or any advice hook me up hahahaha !

ps someones gotta tell me does this car get the chicks or is that a myth? because this car is just beyond effin sexy

Welcome!!

it's to bad you have to wait until the spring to drive it. I'm not sure if this is your first car or not, but this car is soooo much fun to drive. I will come up with any excuse just to drive it. The handling is phenomenal, the acceleration is pretty good, the sound at 9K rpm is amazing, and the car looks awesome. but as far as getting girls, it does a good job, this car really has changed my life as far as being more confident.

A few things you should know is; redline the car at least once a day, the mpg is horrible (i get about 17mpg), check the oil level often (every fill-up), realize your a target now for the cops. this car isn't built to drag race (if you want to race, take it to the track). and like me and everyone else on this forum you will eventually start to modify your car (it's inevitable).

and like any other car, just do it's routine maintenance and keep it clean and it will last you a long time. i detail my car for 6-7 hrs every week.

P.S. always search what your looking for first, before you post a new thread....it will keep you from getting flamed

some nice people tonight! Must be because I won some money on the game
Anyways, like SuperCereal90 said, take care of this car, but don't baby it. Drive it like you stole it, but do it responsibly. Treat it like a girl you'd like to marry: feed her good food (91 octane or higher), clean her often (twice a week in winter, once a week in summer), make sure she's well lubed (oil, tranny, diff fluid), buy her clothes (research your mods!), and make sure that you ride her hard, at least once a day (redline in 2nd gear).
Other info can be found. I'm just drunk and wanted to promote sexual innuendo

wow 143 000km's???
Either try to walk away and search for one with lower km's, or else try to bring down the price to $10 500 (For those who want to say that that's too high, remember this is in Canada lol)
I'd say look for another. And that wing is awful

Someone needs to start a service that does car searches and negotiations on behalf of inexperienced buyers (I know such services are available for new car buyers).

Here's some advice, though; don't buy any vehicle that was owned by someone who would put a wing like that on it.

That dealer needs to be slapped upside the head for asking 11k for that car -- even in Canada.

Lol.

Seriously though, this car gets "ALOT" of attention. When Fast and the Furious 4 came out, I went to the theater just to laugh at all the ricers, and everyone was checking my car out when I stopped, not the other cars.

I just picked up an 04 rx8, I live in Edmonton Alberta, and so far the car isnt to bad in the winter but having winter tires would help alot, i have not the best tires and i manage to get around everyday, the car starts fine in -25 weather without being plugged in but i let it sit for a day and a half not being used in -35 weather and had difficultiesstarting it had to boost it and do the deflooding procedure which only took 5 mins to get the car running. I'm very impressed with my car and it puts a smile on my face everyday driving it, i can wait til spring when the roads get nice so i can really see what the car can do when i have traction. lol

Thats the first time I've seen someone take off the "RX-8" badge on the back but leave the "Mazda" badge.

Hey man, im down here in GF, Montana right below ya! Hope ya find a good 8. I LOVE MINE. I have summer tires on it and as long as its not packed snow/ice I can get around fine. Im gonna go pickup some snow tires in the next few days. But from what i;ve heard with snow tires it runs fine.
