Revs...
I did a search on this topic but could not find any answers. Since I'm new to the rotary world, what do you all normally rev at while simply cruising? I am not talking about when you upshift but rather where on the rev band do you all mostly drive around in town and on the highway?
In my 6s, I sat around 2500-3000. But the rotary seems different. What is the best rev range?

I drive in the 2.5K-3K range...normally when cruising, but 3K plus on the highway of course.
The 2.5K is mainly out of lazyness in changeing gears all the time but I probably avg 2.75K
So far, my fuel economy in 90% city, 5% highway, and 5% PLAY :D ....I got:
19.75
19.34
18.98
5% play will increase once I get over the 1,000 miles...lol :D

I do most of my driving during my 150 round trip commute, mostly on the NJ Turnpike and Route 287 (in NJ). I leave early enough in the morning before the traffic crunch so I'm able to set my cruise on 71mph and the revs are around 3500 - 4000. I get about 20 mpg/ tank.
Of course, I usually exit 287 a couple of exits early, so I can take a nice twisty road on the last part of my commute just to make things a little more interesting.
Gotta love the 8 - It's extremely docile and comfortable just cruising along at 70-75mph on the highway. But a real tiger when you want to have fun.

I keep mine between 3k-4k if I know I'm going to be at that speed for a while... but if there's opportunity to get on it a little, I'll keep it at 4k-4500 to be closer to the sweet spot in the power band. I stopped worrying about mileage a long, long time ago :D

3000 cruising. When in town traffic I shift at 4500. 3k has a good enough punch when you stomp it, if needed to avoid an accident or something of that nature.

under 3750 when I can--I think extra fuel supplies over 3750 rpm.
I probably shift around 4200 in the lower gears and I never use 5th gear--from 4th to 6th is easy transition.

9k? I'm all over that.
And I tend to follow the 3750 rule myself. (I've heard talk that an extra fuel injector kicks in at that rpm level, so I just keep it below there unless the lead foot prompts it).

When riding with my dealer, he made me keep it 5-6000 through out the city, but he also had me plung into a 25MPH clover leaf at 55mph, and open up the throttle while in the middle of the turn, but also had me redline it in second gear in a 25 because it was a turn. He told me they spent several hours figuring the best test drive route for the rx-8. For being rush hour it was a really nice trip it put on of these on my face ----> :D

I took my car to 8k RPM up to third gear yesterday. This thing is FAST!!!! It's so quiet and doesn't even feel like it's moving.
I was smiling to myself in rush hour traffic thinking, "I'm driving a supercar, the only mass produced rotary sports car in the world".
The RX8 is one of those cars that I used to hear my Dad say about his early autos, "I never should've gotten rid of that car, it would've been a classic by now".
Like ZL1 Camaros or GTO Judges, etc., I believe that these cars are truly revolutionary...nuff said.
