Reverse gone
So I go to back out of my driveway today and all I hear is grinding. So I look at the shifter and it keeps poping out. I cannot get it to reverse at all. Has anyone else had this issue. I have 12k, and it is manual. No hard driving or anything unusuall. All other gears work fine.

i've had my car grind on reverse a couple of times.. but what i noticed is that when shifting into reverse, you hear 2 distinctive clicks.. if u hit the accelerator after the first click, it'll grind. so try listening for a 2nd click that'll prompt that it is in place and u should be able to reverse the car

I know for sure it is in gear. Had the car for a year now, never had any gear grind or any other issues. There is just no reverse. Also when driving forward there is a small clunking noise coming from under the car. It is getting takin to the dealership today. I let you know what they say.

They let me take the car home w/ no reverse today. They ordered the parts, the mazda people told my tech they have had a lot of issues with the reverse syncro. so now I just push my car out of driveway. It is always fun having to push a 35k car, not to embarrasing though, I just tell my neighbors I need the exercise. Also they are doing my brakes, driver seat, and rear passanger rattle. So it will be very nice when it is done.

Happens occassionally to me too.
I've noticed that it only happens in the morning when the car has been parked stationary overnight.
The guys who posted above are right about the "two clicks".
Listen out for it and you shouldn't have this problem.
If symptoms persist, see your local (Mazda) doctor.

My case is totally different. I know about the 2 clicks. In my car right now, there is NO reverse. It makes the 2 clicks but still just sits there and grinds. For those of you that have it happen occassionally, that is not the case with mine. Had the car for a year with no issues, and then the other day it just went.
