Resale values
Resale values
Hey Guys,
I am new to the forum although I look at the threads all the time, I just finally decided to register. I was wondering if anyone knows how much Rx-8's are getting now. I checked on KBB and I the trade in was crap, and the retail wasn't much better. I have had my RX8 for over a year now, and want to keep it, but want to know why it has such bad resale value???

Search, ftw!
The resale values here in the Great White North also suck. Although, the depreciation seems to track US percentages not badly.
A New 2008 here stickers for around $42k. A year-old New off-the-lot can be had for $32k. 2005 & 2006 seem to be asking high $20's. 2004's (over warranty on km's and time) seems to sell for the low $20's. ($=CAD, eh.)
btw, did I mention Search

I bought mine for pretty much what they are going for used right now.
Even if I lose a couple hundred buck in the 2 years I have owned it, I aint complaining.

I bought my '05 Sport MT (when Sport included ESC, anti-lock brakes, and foggers) for $23,400 out the door.
I will have had it for 3 years in 3 1/2 months.
I can sell it right now to my next door neighbor, who has the money, and will write a check today, for $17k.
Yes, he knows that I am meticulous. My car also only has 28k on the odometer (I drove a Jeep for the first couple winters).
But you can barely find a mint RX-8 where I live.
So, $23,400 - $17,000 = $6,400
That's a $6,400 depreciation over 32 months. Or $200 per month.
And there's no way I'm selling it, since it's been absolutely problem free, and I love it, and I get compliments nearly every day.
I really don't think there are many other cars that can match the blend of performance and comfort of the 8 at its price point. It's the perfect daily driver for someone who doesn't want to relegated to sedan boredom, but needs something more practical than a Z.
The only car I'd even consider replacing my 8 with is a G37.
