Replace Factory NavRadio with Factory Regular Radio or...

Hello -

Some of you may know the Series II stereo is by now obsolete (no sh*t!), and didn't stream audio from your phone as-is; you have to jack it to your phone's earplug outlet.

To make a long story short, my NavRadio has crapped out. It was getting slower to operate functions since I bought the car back in Jan 2016, and since yesterday it's not pumping out any audio.

I'm wondering whether any of you have reverted from NavRadio to Regular Radio (phones and tables now have Maps and GPS), plus it preserves the original look of the car. The only downsides are that (1) I still have the streaming issue, and (2) I don't know if there are any compatibility issues stepping down from the Bose setup to the "regular" setup in terms of harnesses and number of speakers.

Have any of you pursued the route described above?
Have any of you pursued the route described above and somehow added streaming (with some Bluetooth adapter of sorts)?

Alternatively, have any of you installed a system with Apple CarPlay and a minimum of harness fuss? I'd be searching for the cleanest-looking alternative. No need to blow off my doors or anything.

Thanks, regards.

There is a non-nav Bose radio. I would assume it would just plug in and work but I dont know that for sure.

To add bluetooth streaming there are devices you plug into your aux intput and into your charger port. Some have little remotes you can mount to change tracks, others you just use your phone. I think you also need a ground loop isolator when you use both ports, same if you plug your phone into aux while charging it.

There are harnesses to install aftermarket radios just like any other car. If you look up your car on Crutchfield it tells you everything you need. I think you need a wiring harness, a Bose/steering wheel control adapter, and a dash trim kit.
