Removal of Trunk Spoiler
I'm trying to take my spoiler off at this very moment and feel like I'm going to break something.... I got the 4 bolts off, but how do I detach the spoiler from those plastic clips? Next step is me pulling really hard, and I don't know if that's a good idea...
.... I personally love the look of the spoiler on the RX8. The RX8 is a very different design, extreme in many ways. It's very much from the Japanese "anime" school of design (like Speed Racer's Mach 5). I also think the car somehow looks naked and incomplete without one. So much so that I'm putting an OEM spoiler on the 2007 GT I just bought.
As far as the RX8 looking more "mature" without the spoiler, I'm probably one of the oldest people here on this forum (50, yeah, I'm old...), and I personally like the look with the spoiler.
No right or wrong, just personal tastes. Vanilla or chocolate.

Not that this is a poll or not that anyone asked me....
Also Oprah said that 50 is the new 30 so take off 20 years brother and keep on rolling.

I have small cracks in my spoiler already and don't want to make them any worse.
Should I just pull harder?
There is two bolts, double sided tape and a plastic tab per side that holds the spoiler on. Use a hair dryer for the double sided tape. And you have to give it a good pull to remove plastic piece.
yes, pull harder, but do it carefully. the plastic bolts are self-retaining. it might feel like you're breaking something, but you're really just pulling on the self-retaining bolt. it's really annoying there're so many holes. i just plugged them up w/ rubber plugs from the hardware store. some day, i suppose i might take it to a body shop and have them sand, plug, and paint
It looks too "sporty" in a kind of immature sort of way, not a good way. I tend to think of the 8 as a sports coupe in the line as cars like the 135i and such, and these types of cars look classier and cleaner without a spoiler. Don't get me wrong, the spoiler does look pretty good, and as far as spoilers go it flows well with the car's design anyway.
(Then again, I added stainless steel strakes to mine. But mine's Black Cherry Mica - nearly black, so all of the interesting lines and shapes tend to disappear.)
Just my 2¢.
