Removal of chrome RX8 body emblems

On the trunk lid is a chrome RX8 emblem I would like to remove.

1. Does anyone know how this emblem is attached to the vehicle body?

2. Will removing it affect the paint?

3. The best way to remove the emblem so as not to damage the body.

Try searching the forum for "removing emblems" or "debadging".

Welcome to the club.

Geez....first post and he's already ripping the name off the car...... Welcome

Some on here have debadged their car. Just takes some body work to fill the holes and some paint. I don't remember which emblem is post and which is 3M?

the rx8 and mazda letterings are only glued on. you can pry it off with a hair dryer and a steady hand.
the mazda "flying wing" emblem on the other hand is held in place by two screws. you'll have to patch the holes and repaint it if you remove the emblem.

well I only had my car about 5 weeks now. I have waxed it once and washed 4 times now, I really dont have any problem with it. though I have to admit this is the only car I really washed this much. i really like my rx-8!

the efini is what mazda labled the rx7 for a few years toward the end of its production. basically a seperate division. they made FD3S rx7s, sold em in efini dealers, put efini tags, etc and some parts(i'm not sure about this particular part).
its actually a pretty cool symbol that works very well with rotary engines. its a triangle with an infinity sign inside it, playing on the idea of the rotary rotors and the way it makes a figure 8 while it turns. very cool.
BUT the efini is exclusive to the FD (93-00 model years although efini itself is like only 96+?) rx7s and is not in any way associated with the rx8.

but then again i could be wrong, rotarygod has proven that in the past. rotarygod? where are you?

i like to debadge mine, but $500 just for the rear trunk to cover the holes and paint isnt worth it...

mazda didnt need to put the holes in the "mazda" logo as well, its just to stop people pulling off their company's badge... i wouldnt mind just debadgin the "mazda" and "rx-8" logo. i dont see mercedes having another logo saying "mercedes" on the back when they have their 3-spoke logo... its like mazda is worried nobody knows its a "mazda" car!

also where can i get these logo at a reasonable price... i found them for $24.99 each by google, but they didnt give much description, except color...

In the early '90s the Mazda logo looked sort of like a toilet bowl with a oblong rotor in the center. I guess they just were not capable of designing a proper rotary logo and opted for the "flying M" instead. While the rotary engine is currently only in one model, they should not hide from the fact the rotary engine is what identifies the company.

Just removed the "RX-8" emblem from the back. I was slightly surprised to see that was plastic. Looks good without it and I don't miss the plastic
