Recommended ratios?
Hi Guys,
Just looking throught he forums for the last several hours. I see lots of suggestions and stories of personal experience on using premix (2 Stroke, MMO) as well as various oils (Synthetic or Otherwise). Most of the postings date back 9 months to a year. Thus I was wondering if there has been any kind of agreement on recommendations? Normally, I'd ask the dealership but since some of these recommendations are not inline with Mazda's rec's, well clearly that would be problematic. In addition, the local Mazda dealership (Lee Johnson) evidently looks to really stick it to the customers so I don't think they'd give me any advice (They wanted $120 just to look at my RX8).
So has there been any conclusion on the following:
Premix -
2 Stroke (RedLine, Amsoil, Idemitsu)
MMO (Lucas, FP)
Oil -
Synthetic vs Regular
Currently I am using Royal Purple 5W-20. I've only had the car for 6 weeks, and look to top off my oil chamber after every OTHER fill up. I'm not adding any premix. The car runs great, although my gas mileage is between 12 - 18 MPG depending on how heavy my left foot is. Oh yes, and it's a 2006 Shinka.
Thanks for any advice in advance.

hummm.
I think I said this many times. rotary engine problem is more of a hit or miss. some engines fail at 30k with extensive care, some dont even after 100k.
I personally dont Premix and only use Castrol GTX, but what I always do is to make sure at least red line once every time I run the engine.

Premix with something that burns clean. I LOVE motul products and swear by their 710 oil. There are many good 2 stroke oils out there, the best bet is to read some 2t bike forums and see what they like. The old castrol TTS used to gum up the carburettor and built tons of carbon inside of the piston head. I crashed because of this lol.
The synthetic vs mineral oil debate is something that will never end.
Pick the right synthetic and be happy with it. The right ones is the one that burns clean, for instance mobil 1 doesn't. Great oil for a piston engine, slow death for a rotary.
Royal purple is what I use as well, albeit in a different weight (10w40).
This is a super synthesis that left A LOT behind, reading those old old threads will surely help (at least spending time positively when sitting in the bathroom )

Valid
Yeah, I've read a lot of the postings. There's plenty of anectdotal data out there, which seems to run the gamut. There was also mention of a massive failure of some 50K engines. Not sure if that was the RX8 or not, just didn't see a lot of detail. All I can really gather from the data is to possibly conclude that the QA problem on engines is likely rooted in the fact that these are handmade and hence two are never the same.
I was reading about premix and hosing the fuel filter and there was one posting about it potentially causing issues by using excessive amounts that oestensibly leads to just the solvent being blown into the engine.
The car I bought is a Shinka Edition, and came with a car cover and see through bra (always a fan of see through bra's! :^) I don't think many cars can boast hitting 75MPH in second gear, but once I got the tire issue sorted out this has been a delight to drive ever since.
Reason why I posed the question was there does seem to be a lack of conclusion on this matter. Plus, the threads I was reading were peppered by some dude name qayle or quaker or something like that who always was bent on railing on rotary engines. Seemed like every time a conclusion was close he'd drop a comment on there that would send everyone through the roof. Course he did claim to be an oil salesman (he just failed to mention it was snake oil)
