I got tagged. They don't want to go through insurance. THANK GOD they at least had it...
What should I do ? Buy a new bumper or the MS rear ? And can I just replace just the plastic on this one ?

What a pain in the *** !

Agree - I got reverse back too. But not hard enough and I buffed it off - otherwise I will claim insurance and pay for diff between the RX-8 OEM front and MS front

MS will cover that area correct? From the install pics I've seen it looks like it will.

This blows, the MS rear would be nice.

I've been working on a theory regarding the rx-8 and the rear accent. It seems to me that this shiny bit is acting similarly to the deep sea Anglers "caruncle" in how it entices its prey (Open pic for greater detail).

I think it will cover it but some of that damaged bumper will need to be left to install the MS bumper. From what I remember, you have to "saw-off" the bottom half of the OEM bumper to fit the MS...

I know of the sawing thing. There will be some damaged part on the car, but it will be covered from the looks of it..

That really sucks. The damage appears to be part of the main bumper cover. Once they see the costs to replace and refinish it they will probably want it to go through their insurance. My advice, always go through insurance. I've been bit on cash deals but an insurance company will usually make it right.

Also, don't settle for anything until you have pulled the cover and looked for other damage.

Great point. My guess is the impact foam behind the bumper will probably need
to be replaced also. This could turnout be bigger than a bump.

I checked the exhaust canister real quick last night, but couldn't investigate much because it was hot. I'll have to get in there and check it out. I don't think the guy who hit me has much money.....

Unhappy

*sigh*, same predicament. My poor 8 got backed into while waiting for a friend to get into my car in a parking lot. See below for the grueling pics. She doesn't want to go thru insurance either.

Can't you force them to go through insurance? I personally wouldn't want to take a risk that they'd later change their mind. They caused the problem, not you.

Yeah, you can insist on taking the insurance info. If they refuse and depart, I believe it is considered a hit and run.

Sorry to hear about your tagging accident cgrx. It's as if drivers have a fascination with the RX-8's butt. I like butts too, but I know when to back off.

I'm being nice to this guy and trying to solve it without insurance. If he resists at all - I live down the street from his State Farm agency =)

IF the person that hit your car wants to be ****, he could actually wait until you take him to court... His defense will be .. 1) He didn't hit you, and you have no proof.. if you did, you would have took a report and filed insurance. or 2) He will say he already paid you in cash for the damages, and now you are claiming for more... thus dragging himself AND you through the mud that you didn't report this to the insurance..etc etc...

I read cases like these... scary... so I always report. Screw the other party

I feel your pain, having just been tagged (a bit harder than that) last week.

What is it with our invisible 8s? Hope you get yours fixed quick.

Exactly, I carry my digital with me all the time. Once you see the first sign of balking report to insurance.
