Cumbie bought the 8 after checking out both cars. he found that the 8 cost about $7000 less after Mazda discounts. He said for that kind of savings he doesn't mind downshifting his way around the torque curve.

If my engine isn't supposed to be doing something, and is, I would be concerned. If it is supposed to be doing something, and is, I wouldn't.

I guess I'm not normal though, and therefore am not supposed to be driving what "normal" people drive, and thus, and relegated to what I love anyway. Rotaries.

That is a good argument, however you would think it would be the other way around. When you buy an RX-8, you research and lone behold you read about oil consumption as a normal part of the operations of the engine. Now if i get another car and it burns oil, just because, that seems like it would be worse. To me anyway..

So many people are just so driven on bigger and badder, and ride the bandwagon. Heck, if the Rx8 happened to be an I4, instead of a V8 or a V10, it would've gotten bashed for that.

'I mean, really? A four cylinder, compared to a high class BMW? Gtfo!'

It's a combination of pride, ignorance, and just riding the bandwagon.

If it's cool to pick on someone in school, because other people were picking on that person, then it's cool to do the same in the automotive world.

I've honestly found it much more humbling myself, to be open to everything. Yeah, my alliance is with Mazda, but, I don't hate. Honestly, to me, if it's your thing, if what you drive is a reflection of you, I'm proud of that. While it might not be my cup of tea, I give props.

It's a shame more people can't be like that. I mean, I dunno. I guess I just wish people would stop taking the diversity we have for granted, because it could be taken away.

But, ultimately, I feel sorry for the guy who wrote that.

It does tempt me to send them a message going into why I love my Rx8.


.... Then suddenly, idea. We should as a forum, send them a compilation of letters just going into how we feel about our Rx8's, and why we love them. Could you imagine if they posted it all?

I think a certain BMW lover would get hotheaded. And heck, they would probably get some laughs out of it.

If someone is focused solely on numbers, I can certainly see why this person would be closed minded about the RX-8. But, as we all know, the car is much more than it's specs.

I've driven literally hundreds of different cars in my 25+ years of having a driver's license. More than any other car I've ever driven (although the Viper and RX-7 are close), this car has a soul to it that incredibly few cars have.



I would put money on the fact that the guy who wrote the letter to C&D has never driven an RX-8.
But then again... I doubt anyone here would take that bet.

Even if he drove it, I doubt he would "get it." The car picks it's drivers. And I doubt it would "speak" to someone like him, lol.
