A rare Sports Package?
Hey guys and gals,
I posted on the velocity red thread pics of my new Eight. A couple of members suggested I had a rare sports package. I knew I was buying a Sports/Standard RX-8 with a 6 speed. I just figured the spoiler was dealer option or something. Everything on the car is stock and it does not look like the spoiler was added later. Was there a special sports package that was applied to the 2004 model year? If so what where the list of options?
Here are some pics for refreance. Sorry for reposting them I need to take some more pictures. These are all I have right now.

Okay, if your car is like Hoss-05's car then it is a bit weird. It has the six speed tranny, bigger brakes, no TCS, No HID's, No fogs, No homelink mirror, no Bose, no sunroof. But then it has a spoiler and mud guards. Most base sports that i have seen otherwise have no options.

All six speed manual transmissions in the US came with the above.
The sport package added the fogs, HIDs, & DSC.
The confusing part was what the "sport package" added to automatic equipped RX-8s.
Remember the early 2004-2005 had the 4 port engine, with 16" wheels, smaller brakes, etc. So if you got the "sport package" or above, you would get the same wheels, brakes, suspension, and LSD as all the manual transmission RX-8s.
So the OP has a "base" manual transmission RX-8. No worry since I don't feel any RX-8 model is a "base model"! Now we are going to determine if the accessories came from the dealer or port installed option.

Yeah, you are right now that I think of it. I know they changed over the years though a little. I think there is a thread outlining all this no?

Somewhere along the way Mazda NA changed the U.S. models (2006?). There was no base model any more. The lowest level RX8 was the Sport, but available in two levels of trim. One level of the Sport was the same as the old base model and the other level was the same as the old Sport. They were just both called the Sport.
The Appearance Package is a dealer installed option. I believe the only manufacturer installed option was the Nav system.

The spoilers are stick on, you can get them on ebay for certain colors ( factory painted ) as cheap as $50. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=110681033561
That's a base sport package, not even a aero package ( which you could also get off ebay if you wanted for a couple hundred bucks )
