Question A rare Sports Package?

Hey guys and gals,

I posted on the velocity red thread pics of my new Eight. A couple of members suggested I had a rare sports package. I knew I was buying a Sports/Standard RX-8 with a 6 speed. I just figured the spoiler was dealer option or something. Everything on the car is stock and it does not look like the spoiler was added later. Was there a special sports package that was applied to the 2004 model year? If so what where the list of options?

Here are some pics for refreance. Sorry for reposting them I need to take some more pictures. These are all I have right now.

Those are mud guards I believe. There is nothing on the car from the GT appearance package, no front bumper lip, no side skirts by the rear passenger door or behind the rear tire

Okay, if your car is like Hoss-05's car then it is a bit weird. It has the six speed tranny, bigger brakes, no TCS, No HID's, No fogs, No homelink mirror, no Bose, no sunroof. But then it has a spoiler and mud guards. Most base sports that i have seen otherwise have no options.

5 speed was on the euro and JDM low power 4 port motor and was not offered in NA.

They must have run out of parts or something while at the factory or was a special order. The engine is a 9k engine and the 6 speed tranny. No TCS or HIDS, I wonder if I have a LSD?

IIRC, the sport package includes bigger brakes, wheels, and LSD.

All six speed manual transmissions in the US came with the above.

The sport package added the fogs, HIDs, & DSC.

The confusing part was what the "sport package" added to automatic equipped RX-8s.

Remember the early 2004-2005 had the 4 port engine, with 16" wheels, smaller brakes, etc. So if you got the "sport package" or above, you would get the same wheels, brakes, suspension, and LSD as all the manual transmission RX-8s.

So the OP has a "base" manual transmission RX-8. No worry since I don't feel any RX-8 model is a "base model"! Now we are going to determine if the accessories came from the dealer or port installed option.

Yeah, you are right now that I think of it. I know they changed over the years though a little. I think there is a thread outlining all this no?

jrx13 has it right.
Somewhere along the way Mazda NA changed the U.S. models (2006?). There was no base model any more. The lowest level RX8 was the Sport, but available in two levels of trim. One level of the Sport was the same as the old base model and the other level was the same as the old Sport. They were just both called the Sport.
The Appearance Package is a dealer installed option. I believe the only manufacturer installed option was the Nav system.

The used dealership that I got mine from claimed it was the sport package. However, based on the above info... I have the touring package.

My car came with halogens, fog lights, bose, no homelink/leather, no DSC, 6sp + l/s, 18" rims, no tmps, no nav, headlight washers, fancy pedal covers. It's an 04 GS.
It was exactly what I was looking for.

Nice car O.P.

Right....later models are different. Didn't want to start going into those to add more confusion. Just thought I'd stick with OP 2004 model.

The spoilers are stick on, you can get them on ebay for certain colors ( factory painted ) as cheap as $50. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=110681033561

That's a base sport package, not even a aero package ( which you could also get off ebay if you wanted for a couple hundred bucks )

All 6 speeds have it and DCS/TC is an option.

6sp + limited slip + no traction control = win

+1 it's a base model with some dealer added accessories, all of those accessories come factory painted to match the vehicle paint code
