Quick warranty question

In my continual research of the RX8 to purchase... A lil birdie told me that a salesman told him that if you don't properly warmup the car before shutdown it voids the warranty and that the salesman showed him in the manual where it was stated... and supposedly the ECU datalogs events so it would be something that the dealership could prove. I argued with my buddy that, thats ludicrous especially with a TSB or two out there for flooding issues that were likely related to short non warmed up trips. Can anybody say for sure one way or the other?

You're little birdie is misinformed. Although it is not a good idea to shut the car down cold, it will NOT void the overall warranty. Shutting the car down cold repeatedly can eventually result in a flooded engine. Most dealers will do the de-flood procedure a few times under warranty, but if you continue to flood the car they will likely balk at de-flooding it for free as tome point. If you follow the instructions that come with the car about warming it up before shutting it down, you will not have a flooding problem, but if you ignore those instructions you take the chance of causing a flood.

Yeah I was thinking it'd be rather **** of them to void warranty for something silly like that... When I get mine I'm gonna put a simple turbo timer in there, not sure why everyone doesn't do that... can set it for a max of 10min after you pull the key... really need 20min to warm it up idling prolly tho.

ummm, nobody lets their car idle for that long. Horrible for gas mileage, also totally not needed. You are better off just driving it and keeping the revs under 5k if you want it to warm up and get to operating temp
