Questions sent to Racing Beat & Response
Hi,
I have 3 questions. (directed towards racingbeat.com)
1. When is your cold air intake coming out for the RX-8. The RX-8 forum has been waiting along time for it. Honestly, a lot of our memebers have bought other air intakes instead.
2. When can we expect a turbo from you guys?
3. I see that you changed your air filter from AFE to KN N, why the change?
Thanks
JaG
Response:
Thanks for the questions.
1. We spent a considerable amount of time on the engine dyno undertaking R&D with respect to the design of the intake box and filter assembly. Now that the tooling for the box is complete, we are finalizing the work on the inlet tube that retains the MAF sensor unit. We are also incorporating a specially designed K&N filter element that is undergoing final revisions. We are aware that there are other intakes on the market and we wanted to improve on the shortcomings of some of these units. In an effort to address intake sound levels, HP, drivability, and idle issues, it has taken us a bit longer than we would have liked. But, we are not about to rush to market with a poorly designed part just to satisfy demand.
2. We have installed MANY different forced induction kits on the Renesis engine. At this point, we find a supercharger unit more interesting on this application. However, plans for any type of kit are not in the short-term plans until engine management and engine durability issues can be explored in more detail.
3. We switched to K&N for a number of reasons. The primary reasons were the fact that AFE raised the minimum ordering quantity and product price. In turn, we were able to provide a similar part at a lower price from K&N.
Best regards,
Jim Langer

Glad to see racing beat taking time in producing quality products for the RX8, and not selling products at random that do not work adequately .
Hymee and Dr phil will be pleased to hear that even Racing beat after triyng various forced induction systems on the car , have found that a supercharger unitis more interesting in the RX8. (Mazdamaniac ) are you listening ??
Is the Australian Hymee / Dr phil Twin screw supercharger kit going to be out before one in the US ,?? i certainly hope so :D
cheers

Jim Langer at Racing Beat (and all the people there) are top-notch. I've been to their facility several times, and they've used my Miata as a test-fit vehicle for a cold-air intake they're working on. They are absolutely committed to providing the best products and services, and they would never rip you off. I can't recommend them enough. Anything they design and market will be the best thing out there and well worth the wait -- I'm convinced.
