Question re: battery cover

Is the battery cover a part of the tray? I.e., attached to the tray or is it a separate piece that locks onto the tray. Mine was missing when I got the car & I can't tell from the pictures from the

battery tray consists of three parts. yhe top cover snaps to the middle section, and the middle snaps into the lower tray.
