question about xenon headlights
i was just wondering...are anyone else's xenon headlight one brighter than the other. My driver side headllight is brighter. You can't see it when you stand up close but when you move back, you can definately tell. Is this normal on the rx-8?

Hey AsNrx8,
Great to see your car , after our meet I tried to see a difference . Other than the aiming I did not see any difference . You had better go back to Superior.
p.s next time you plan to go out with the kids , let me know , I'll treat to some games and pizza !

Mine were a little uneven, but they broke themselves in, I guess.
And they are aimed better than the Boxsters, which may be why they seeem to be not as bright as some other luxury cars. They are just discovering you can aim them so they don't blind other drivers, and still be able to see.

My personal opinion is that's too long - I just got my first service done at around 3600. Typcally I've changed the oil in my rotaries every 3000 miles.
As for the headlights - my right side one is a tad higher than the left also, but they are both the same brightness (after they get up to temp, about 15 seconds or so). Sometimes I think I can see the level adjust slightly, but it could be just by brain fooling myself because I know it's got some self-leveling gadget so I'm subconciously looking for the aim to change when I turn them on.

(hijack?) and related: how can you tell the auto-leveling is working? I've been watching closely for some time, and I can't detect any leveling whatsoever, under any conditions...

auto leveling
If you want to see if your leveling system is working, aim them at a wall from a ways back so that you can see the horizontal beam
when you are standing behind your car, now put your body weight on the trunk, within a couple seconds your should see the line move down on the wall
