Pulleys or lowering springs?

My only mod right now is a K&N typhoon. For my next mod I want either agency pulleys or lowering springs. WHich do you think should be next. Im leaning towards pulleys but I really want springs. I might just do both at the same time

I personally wouldn't do springs unless I was doing more to the suspension (shocks, maybe sways, etc.). So I vote pulley.

pulley isn't worth the cost either. Most of the NA mods are just if you want to change your car for the sake of changing it more than actually getting anything back in return.

springs will lower the car, so at lest you'll get some cosmetic return for the buck

springs... but I would suggest a set of adjustable shocks to go with it.

are there any performance mods with the exception of a lightwieght flywheel and midpipe that will actually yeild a respectable gain? Pulleys are said to give 8 hp but after reading around here, everyones saying thats false, its more like 3. I guess Im so satisfied with the handling, I just want a lil bit more power. I mainly want springs for cosmetic and a stiffer ride more than handling gains. What do you guys think, any performance mods other than FI worth while?

A proper intake might not amaze people on a dyno sheet BUT there are other great benefits to adding it. Keep in mind that heat is a major adversary of our engines. (although my dyno day with 19 RX-8's did show something very intersting about RB intakes + exhausts)

Racing Beat flash might give you a couple more ponies, it kicks the fans on sooner (car runs cooler), and it pushes the redline out a little further.
Speaking of Racing Beat, they do have a header unit due out very soon.

Do you have an exhaust on your car? Might not be the greatest performance mod but sure does sound nice. (and looks great)

no exhaust yet..... I heard there isnt too much untapped power back there. My favorite from the sound clips is both HKS hi power single and the legamax. Im planning on a midpipe ( loving the flames) in the near future. I already have a typhoon intake on my car and am trying to decide if I want to concentrate on making the car quicker (which it needs, lol) or on the handling which is this cars biggest attribute. So i guess Im at a crossroad in my modding. If I had all the money Id do both and go FI but unfortunatly, money is a concern.

well i have springs and pulley and i would go springs first for sure. then the pulley if you want it. really handling wasnt a concern w/ me but the look of a lowerd rx8 is great. i have a buddy w/ an rx8 that isnt lowered and my car looks sick beside his just lowered b4 i had rims or anything else. the pulley i think i may feel a little power up top but not much. but 3 horses here and there add up. * remember that*

+1 for looks. get springs since you really don't need to replace anything that is working properly.

if you want a noticeable gain in performance i suggest a CAI.
for improved throttle response get a flywheel, but that'll cost $$$.

lol, well I didnt want to do a poll because Im doing both upgrades anyways, I just didnt know which one to do that night but I went with springs first, then Ill probably be ordering the pulleys within a couple weeks. Coilovers are in the plans but not for a while, I want to save and make sure I get good coilovers when I do get them. Ill let everyone know when I got the springs on

Dont get the pulleys man. Is well documented they dont do much if anything. With all the new flash tools coming out ur better off waiting just a little longer and you will be able to buy a tool that will be capable of flashing the ecu yourself (no pun intended), as well as other things including fan temp. manipulation, data logging, ect. Flash will increase your hp, how much remains to be seen for sure.

The flash tools will be between $300-$700 so just continue to save and get urself one of these when they come out and are proven to work.

Springs would be a good call though. I think ALL 8 owners should get some good springs after buying an 8 (shocks not required as long as ur not tracking/racing), will tighten up the ride and make car look a TON better cosmetically.

Of course, this is just my opinion.

any other good <$500 mods I should consider before the flash tool comes out. Im thinking about doing a midpipe seeing as how its not all that expensive yet yeilds some gains and flames I like fire........

well the game plan is to keep the cat in the back of my garage for emissions, and I have an entire service department at the dealership where I can just swap it for emissions. Po Po, Ill get tickets from regardless so thats not a concern and the smell can be any worse than the burning oil smell and tranny fluid burning off my exhaust

Don't do springs unless you at least change the rear shocks.

The rears are weak and you will regret not doing them.

Good choice on the springs, I had them with D-specs before I got coilovers.
