I have an auto, which has no tuning potential; and if a car is already having problems, I know its going to lead to more becuase I we have had 3 lemons in 1-1/2 years. You can just tell when a car is a jilape.

Troy J.
Who has said they've had problems with the RX8 in the winter? I'm quite sure it's been reiterated that it does just fine in cold climates. Cars not starting on a dealer's lot isn't unique to the RX8 -- think about the charge cycles any car goes through on a lot between transport, test drives, and people playing with the gadgets. Yeah, you'll need winter tires, just like the 350z or any other car with performance tires... BFD.

Bottom line, it sounds to me like you have had a couple small problems that you're using as an 'out' because you've either got buyers remorse for buying the auto (I think it's funny how your dad is concerned enough for your safety to buy you the auto so you can keep your hands free to other more distracting things instead of, perhaps, driving), or you're just bored because daddy buys you everything you want and you're ready to declare something a 'lemon' (look up the definition by the way- you aren't even close yet) so you can move on.

Good luck with the 'Z or whatever 'lemon' you choose next.

In that case then I'd recommend a limo and a chauffer - then you can eat and talk on the cell all you want and you won't get stranded cause if for some reason the limo breaks down, just get another to come get you.

350Z better in the winter -- 20 minutes of LMAO later.... wait 20 more minutes of LMAO :D

Glad you will have the summer to enjoy it before you find out how wrong you were. The 350Z is also a great car -- but better in the winter than the 8 -- no way. The laws of physics can't be overcome -- higher torque, front heavy, bad traction control -- sounds like a regular snowmobile.

Plus, you are always on your cell. How are you going to be stranded? You don't seem to have a problem calling people under normal circumstances.

Life is short, do what you want with your cars. But do yourself and the rest of us that share the road with you a favor. Don't talk on your cell when driving.

Otherwise you may end up making lemmonade all over the road with you and your car.

Not to play the age card.. but I will...

JeupRX-8
January 29, 1986
High School Senior
I'm thinking you're getting teased in HS BECAUSE you have an auto in a sporty car. :D

So let's count this down... you're 18, and you've on your 3rd new car, and you're complaining about certain issues that really aren't issues. I'm thinking that you convinced your Dad to get you this car... but he got you an auto, and BECUASE of that, you want to do anything within your power to get rid of it and get something with a little more 'status' for your final days in High School... What a great son you are!

Also... you're going to do whatever your dad damn well tells you to do while you live under his roof. Just say 'Thanks Dad for a great car!'

Remember... there are people in this world, this country, that aren't as well off as you and your family are. And you're complaining about a new car... that has the same amount of problems as any other new car?

Get a Toyota Camry or an Accord of you want familiar reliability. If you want status to show off for your friends and classmates, then DEAL with the small issues ina grown up manner.

Lemon Law:
Your car's not a lemon unless it goes in three times for the same exact problem that the dealer cannot fix, or attempts to fix but it keeps re-appearing.

Sorry, I'm 2x your age, and for some reason I'm thinking your trying to convince yourself you don't want the car.

Then you should know that you actually have to take the car in to the dealer to get looked at, which you haven't done even ONCE, let alone three times for the same problem. Therefore, not a lemon. Spoiled sour grapes, but no lemon.

No offense, but JIMMINY CRICKET on the lemons!! Sounds like you guys have a crappy way of picking out vehicles, or your family has a way of not liking things and picking them to death (from what I read in the post... looks to be the latter).
I have had one lemon in my life, it was a '99 Cougar. One of THE WORST cars ever produced (probably why they quit! :p ) I just can't imagine having that many lemons. After (3), I would just buy a tank or an ultralight aircraft!

Edit: Not that there is anything wrong with being finicky, I just personally find it disconcerting.

One more thing JeupRX-8, you are making a very bad judgement call in terms of problems or reliability about this car. First of all, You came to the forum where thousands and thousands of RX-8'ers came to disscuss and solve little issues concerning their cars, so of course you are going to read about lots of little problems about this car !!! Its not like everyone who owns an RX-8 have all of these problems !!! Go to the Owner Satisfaction Survery Poll, the numbers speaks for themselves. Second, you go talk to your ONE friend who owns that ONE 350Z and happens to have zero problems and you concluded that the 350Z is a problem free car ??!!! YIKES !!! Hmmm... Shouldn't you at least visit their forum and read about their pages and pages of problems as well before making your decision ???

Next time, do your homework before jumping to conclusions.

My dad doesn't care what car I get, as long as it is an automatic and under $40k. I want a new M3 with SMG, but it is in the $50's. I have the best car in my school, thus I am not trying to impress anyone. Another correction: this is my 4th car. We are going to look at the Z's today, maybee I will get a used M3. I dunno, but the reason I listen to my dad regarding the transmission, is that he pays my insurance which is above $4,600 for the RX-8.

Troy J.
Sorry for this, but...
You sound like a spoiled little brat.
Your dad will get you any <40K car you want. (being your 4th car). Then you complain about every little "Imagined" problem.
You are one spoiled kid.

I'm sure he knows he's spoiled, might as well play on his dad's naivete on buying his love for his son. Jeup will be getting a 350Z soon, so it's better this way. I wouldn't want an RX-8 owner to be such a whiner, and can't take care of his car anyways.

I owned a 350Z for about a month, returned it because it was one of the worst daily drives I could have purchased. At the least get a G35. A fully loaded M3 is going to cost you above $40k, but I'm sure your dad will pay for that as well.

This is the second person this past week that was a minor, didn't buy the car themselves, and complained like no other about the RX-8. They wanted this, they wanted that. Stick, Manual. Etc etc. To receive a 30k car, you'd think these kids would just be happy about it.

My truck (gas piston) and my dads truck (Diesel piston) and my moms can (gas piston Fuel injected) all have problems starting when it is -30 F out side. They crank slow and sputter a little. Damn All those cars must be lemons Look I haven't see any engine like to run when its the engines temp is -30 F It takes a great deal of strength to sift my manel tranny in my truck at the temp. I notice you once said "slow cranking" Well put a charger on the battery see if that helps. It sounds like the problem isn't with the car but with the dealer. You need to have you car check out or they can fix the problem. Just because you have on problem that can be easyly fixed doesn't mean you have a lemon. If i used your definition of a "lemon" my grandma's $45,000 caddy would be a lemon. I had to take it to the shop twice to get them to fix it. The tech was a jerk telling me that the problem was something else but Luckly i showed that boss,a nd the boss staightend it out. I don't care if the car is fast or slow I am going to buy the car because it is fun.

The problem isn't the car but the tech working on the car. I do agree with what others have said, that you are spoiled. I am having to work 4 days a week 10 hours a day to be able to afford the 8. This ain't no easy job. I am only a network admin while in class, entill i graduate, and going to school don't bring in the money so I have to work for a local construction company as a Equipment Operator (I think this is fun) and a laborer (hard physical work). Get a lilttle respect to the car and have is taken care of. You are at fault for the wayt he car is because you aren't taking car of it

So, basically, you came here to whine about a car that has nothing wrong with it, brag about your dad's ferrari, and in general make a fool of yourself? Are you trolling deliberately with this tripe?

As far as I can tell, you're nothing but a troll. And now you've had your warning.

troll?
i doubt it....i've read many of his posts and they all the are consistent in ignorance and self vanity

sounds like operator error to me not the car itself....look at all the problems with the renesis and you'll find most of them are because someone drove it because they didn't know how to properly use it( ie a spouse or a little brother who doesn't know better)...........

If I would have known that the new 'plugs weren't in my car when we bought it, and that you have to go through all these steps before you turn the engine off; I wouldn't have bought the car.
Once again your logic astounds me. Cars don't become lemons, they are born that way. So no, it does not have the strong possibility of becoming one. Apparently you and your family think that if a car has a single problem then you must wash your hands of it and get another. I'll bet dollars to donuts that you're BS'ing about not putting the intake on, and there's a good chance that you're the reason there's problems with this car.

And I keep wondering why you think you 'deserved' the hotter plugs? Something about them being new and improved make you think you needed them? Do you even know what hotter plugs mean?

And what the hell are you talking about 'all these steps before you turn the engine off'? Is the one step required, "Warm up Engine" too difficult work into your driving schedule of talking on your cell phone and eating? The previous poster was right- the only way you're going to be happy is sitting in the back of a limo with no responsibilities of vehicle ownership.

Eat IN THE 8 ?!?

Ok, I'm just mentioning this because in the last year I've been hit 3 times, 2 in the 8, because of people not paying attention while driving i.e. eating, talking on the phone.
Your parents are doing you an extreme injustice, it's obvious you lack the maturity to own a performance car and I think you would be better off in a Civic.

Well, you do come off like one, but I think you are actually just young, and a bit spoiled. Geez, my first car was the front of a 79 and the back of an 80 firebird bolted together from two wreaks. I washed dishes for the cash to pay for it. The irony, my parents were very well off, BUT they wanted me to learn the value of work, something I think you need in your life.

Now, be real careful in the Z, I fear you will find it is much worse in poor weather, all that torque and all. A bit of a handful for a young man. You know, I find it strange your family is using a ferrari as a daily driver, what does your father do for a living?

OK i haven't kept up with this thread so now i have a question. in your first post you said

"I am very gracious to everyone who gives me input on this. I have taken all aftermarket parts off, because I am ready to have yet another lemon."

what parts did you have on that you have since taken off? since you say you never actually put the intake on that is listed in your sig.
