problem with the 8.

hey ive had my 8 for about a year and a half i got it with 27,000 miles on it. now it has 38.000. when i got the car it was crazy responsive, now after i put a K&N typhoon i got more power and response but a year later after the k&n i am not getting the same response. i'm not sure what it could be i change oil every 2,000 miles and i only use 93 octane. the problem is very random sometimes it works good, response is quick and the engine sounds great, other times the rpms go up quick but speed not so much, and i get a little rattle at the 4-4500 rmp range. it some times does it when i turn on my fan or defroster on.any know what it could be.

you arent making power off the typhoon... you never did. Which defroster? front or rear? any more info on the rattle?

rpms going up but no acceleration sounds like the clutch slipping...

First off, have you been cleaning your K&N Typhoon using the K&N filter cleaner? If not, chances are the filter element has become clogged enough that it's starting to restrict airflow.

I agree that if you're seeing increases in RPM but little to no speed then it's possible your clutch could be slipping.

yeah, I thought about it being that but my RB intake was clean with about that many miles but I guess it really depends on environment. Worth a check and should be easy to find out on the typhoon.

yeah i cleane the typhoon every 3 -4 months, with the K&N kit. the rattle is just like when u get to the 10,000 rpm the bell that rings, is like that ring but much softer at the 4-4500 tpm range. if my car dosent have that many miles why would my clutch be sliping, and what should i do. Ive set up an appointment with mazda tech garage but is bee so shitty outside with the snow that i have to wait like a week. but im open to suggestions. thanks.

i dont think is my clutch slippin because it usually gets to speed quick but not as quick, i feel like is something to do with air flow, power, or misfire in the rotors. ive never change the plugs, coils, or never got the cat inspected. ive never done any real maintance, never changed any of the stock plugd or anything, could it be any of those issues.

Changing plugs coils and wires would be helpfull

go cruise down the highway in 6th gear, give it WOT, if the RPMs go up but speed doesnt then its a slipping clutch

+1 on PLUGS(OEM NGK only) your coils and wires would be a good idea too. When your plugs get worn this is just the thing you feel....poor response.

yeah, thats what im thining i did the test run on the highway, and i got up to 115mph on icy roads so i didnt wanapush it. i still had ways to go with rpm range. i think what your saying describes what happens everyonce in a while. i get great response somtimes, then someother times i hit the gas and it osent respond as well. does anyone know abou how much it would cost for coils plugs and wires? n i already know not to get them from the dealer. im just looking for a good price on the internet. im also thinking of getting the AP crank pulley and ive read some good things and bad things about it, any advice on this?

why would you clean it every 3 to 4 months? maybe check out the k n website..

they recommend cleaning at ~50k miles. you are over oiling..

good luck my friend.

Just had my engine replaced for very similar symptoms. I was having power loss issues, but not the major, having to pull over on the side of the highway type loss that you usually hear about. But a compression check said new engine. The rattling when the defrost is on was even happening to me. When you use the defrost it spins the AC compressor to dry the air out and my weakened engine seemed to be having a problem with the extra load (was the same when I turned the AC on).

New engine in and AC/defrost works fine and no more loss of power issues.

You are looking at about $250 for four coils and spark plugs. I would recommend replacing the wires aswell if you do that. You could also try cleaning the MAF and check your throttle body for oil residue. Takes 5-10 minutes to check and cant hurt to clean both. I'm not too sure about the pulley. I too have read mix reviews. Technically, it should have a positive effect on your car, technically.

coils are 26.95 each and plugs are 20bucks each unless u go with the rx7 plugs with an extra washer to make up for a spacer they are i think like less than 10 bucks a piece...

I like it alot...HP any exhaust is not going to net u anything I just wanted some more sound. It's not at all loud! It's basically stock at idle and WOT it has a nice deep tone not raspy or anything....very nicely made...but I've had it about a yr and a half and it's actually way too quiet I'm running the stock CAT and I'm planningon putting a catless midpipe with resonator to make it louder!

yeah i was looking at the rottary performance midpipe, but i just got the obx catback and the ap pulleys so i think ill wait for the midpipe for a few weeks. i was going to get the exoticspeed R1-t cause it sounds crucial. but i got obx catback and ap pulleys and saved like $90.00 than if i would of bought the exoticspeed exhaust by itself. hopefully ill be happy with it. people trash talk OBX like is the worst thing that came out. time to prove them wrong!
