premix vs new flash

If our 8's run fine with no problems because we drive them hard and don't have to sit in traffic much, I drive all highway mostly, do we really need the new flash being given in the recall?

Reason I ask is because more oil injected by MOP is not better, i.e. more carbon deposits from burning more motor oil.

Also I think those of us that don't have problems with traffic, high temps, and like to drive at high rpm to clean out deposits can keep our old flashes and just start running 2-stroke synthetic ashless premix which will not leave any deposits.

My 8 runs fine with no issues. I'm not going to take it in for recall, because I don't want the updated flash for the reason stated above. I will just start adding premix which will take care of any insufficient oil being injected by the MOP.

I've read alot of topics on premix and I still have not seen a definite resolution on the issue of whether or not to use premix.

you should also have a poll option: get flashed and continue running premix.

Yeah I thought about that, but I want to make this as simple as can be without too many choices. But, I'm against the updated flash for the reason stated above. Mazda has 40 years experience in the rotary I'm sure they knew their original flash gave sufficient oil through MOP for people who drive the rotary correctly.

problem with your choice is that it's a recall update, so unless you avoid the dealer from now on, I think you're going to find your pcm upgraded.

I am in a similar situation; I track my 8 and most of my miles are Hwy. I get over 20 MPG, never flooded, no loss of power issues. I am out of warranty so I have no need of the dealership and don’t plan on selling my 8 any time soon. I did start using pre-mix in July and the engine is at least is running cleaner because of Pre-Mix. So if I have no plans of getting rid of my 8 why should I take a perfectly fine running 8 in for this? I plan to at least wait till more information comes out about what this flash does.

What premix are you running?

Do you buy directly from them or have another source. I use MMO in my 7 but not sure about using it in the 8 yet. It's not too much over 1k miles.

...running cleaner because of Pre-Mix.
This may be a dumb question, but how does pre-mix make the engine run cleaner? I can see the added 2-stroke oil burning clean, but isn't the usual amount of engine oil still being injected and burned?

I read bad things about Marvel Mystery in a premix thread on this forum. Do a search for Marvel Mystery.

there's a good thread on premix.

I think u misunderstand something.

Most carbon deposit came from the "GAS" that you put every day. its not from the engine oil

You can search RG's thread about it.

Of course, not all Synth oils are the same, so does Dyno juice, so u might want to get some "better" ones.

but pre-mix. from what I've read from 8 and 7 users. should be something that "all" rotary user ........ but ahh, Im kinda lazy to carry a bottle of 2 stroke oil in my trunk everyday

"Special detergent/dispersant additives keep you fuel injectors clean to reduce maintenance."

Can premixes clean fuel injectors?

Man, about searching opinions on premix, you'll never get a definitive answer. I suggest just do what Mazda recommends and you have nobody to blame but them if anything goes wrong.

Been reading all the Synthetic oil threads and its enough to drive you insane.

I'm not misunderstanding anything. How can you be so bold as to say no carbon deposits form by burning motor oil through the MOP?

We all know most carbon deposits come from gas that is a given. But we can't assume no carbon deposits form from injecting and burning motor oil through the MOP.

I never said there were no carbon deposit in engine oil. but your first post sounds like "most carbone deposit came from engine oil"

Dont forget, lots and lots of 8 owners (even 7 owners) use Synth oil with no problems what so ever. Of course, so does Dino oil users.

Not all oils are the same. Synth or Dino. Gotta pick carefully.

you dont mention how many miles you have on your car. but here is what i recomend....

get the flash, it also helps the idle... and if your motor does not have a problem the flash will keep it for having the problem....

i would premix for autox or track days...

now if you have the problem the new flash will not fix it. it is to late.. premix will keep it from occuring agian till you stop premixing...

hope this helps.

The process of mixing a certain type of oil with your gasoline. There are links to other threads in this one that can fill in some of the blanks.

How can one find out what the new flash does?

For example will it affect fuel mileage or power - while no one probably has the correct answer to that, my question is really how do we find out?

After getting crapped on by my first dealer visit, I'm reluctant to have any new magic done until I know the full effect.

I only have 1400 miles on a new 2005 MT. Still breaking-in. I believe Mazda had it right with the original flash for my car. Because the MOP increases oil injection at higher rpm. So if I drive it like it's supposed to be driven it will get enough oil. I won't take my car to the dealer again because I don't want the new flash. Obviousy, the new flash is for people who don't drive hard or who are unfortunate to live in traffic congested areas. Again new flash may be better for these people.

the new flash adds oil at light cruise settings.. this is where the apex seals dry out..... and it makes it idle smoother... it does not change the mop at high rpm... dont know where you got that...

why are you avoiding the flash ??? i dont get it. it could keep your motor from being damaged...

I'm not getting the updated flash because the old one is tried and true for 99% or so of all 8's. We don't have any data on the new flash and how long the engines will last with it. As for keeping my engine from getting damaged, that is why I will start adding premix. Premix will lubricate the seals which is a non issue for me since I drive hard, but will serve as insurance. Premix will also burn cleaner. I'm also avoiding the new flash because increasing motor oil through the MOP will leave MORE deposits.
