Premix
OK so this might be old stuff to some but......
I have a 09 GT, about 6k miles now. I ask the dealer about Premix,
and the reply was " never heard of it" !!! So what the deal here.
Where can I buy some in Northern Ohio and do I need it in the first place.
Thanks

Okay, I am feeling good today so I will post before you get bashed. There is a HUGE thread already with everything you would possibly ever want to know about premix but it is very cluttered.
Anyway, the 09's have everything (well, almost) that was missing in the 04'-08' RX-8's so it should not "need" premix but it can't hurt. Basically premixing is mixing 2 stroke oil in your gas to help with APEX seal lubrication during the combustion process. Your car has three oil injectors (vs. 2 in the 04'-08' RX-8's) so the apex seals should be getting enough lubrication but with the 09's being so young it has yet to be seen if it is necessary or not. But personally it can't hurt so I would get in on that Idemitsu (designed specifically for premixing a rotary) group buy because it is not available locally. Or you can hit up your local motor cycle shop and find a good 2 stroke (Amsoil Saber Pro, etc.). I personally use Amsoil in my SOHN adapter (won't work on an 09') and I use Lucas UCL in my gas.
You are running a cat and supposedly TC3W classed 2 strokes can hurt the cat converter so you might want to use something else.

Nope, RX-7s only had a single injector, but it was in the center. Because of the hot side exhaust ports on the 8, 2 injectors were aimed at the sides but not at the center. This was corrected on the 2009 Renesis by keeping the two side injectors and adding back the center injector.

Duh!, Yes actually you are correct Robrecht (not on the MMO issue though). We (04-08') just lacked a center oil injector (why they switched to two and moved from the center is beyond me) . I was thinking they had four but I think the other two were in the intake tract. I will have to look (never owned a 7).

Thanks for the NON-BASH reply. I have done some reading up on it but
never found a good explanation about it.
I've had my RX8 now for three months, and it has taken me this
long to feel comfortable in tossing it about in traffic like I could in the
del Sol.
The more I drive it, the more I like it. And real snow tires helped a lot! LOL.
It certainly isn't a Honda that's for sure.

I have just come back from talking to my Mazda Parts Manager mate ...
You can't get away from this guy...A quick 10 minute visit, turns into a few Hours!!!...
Anyway, got talking on the RENESIS and Fords Involvement initially.
The Mazda Australia's state service rep told him that Mazda originally wanted a total of SIX oil injection nozzles (as used in the 09's) as engineers where concerned about sealing and longevity based on their 40 years of knowledge.
It has been well documented the "Hurdles" Mazda went through to bring the Evolv into production as the RX-8.
ALL the engineers said the oiling system would give problems in a very short period of time, the Bean Counters (Ford) basically said if you don't sign off on this car now..it won't happen.
So, we all know the outcome.
It appears the Mazda's Rotary Engineers warnings came true. ...
Trying to save a penny has cost at lot more in the end.

Or Ford really did mess it up. I'm hoping the 09's and on don't have the same flaws. One year down, two more to go.

Yeah, great question. Too bad I didn't learn on my second engine. I only ran a heavier oil and did not address premixing. It lasted 75k and I am certain if I premixed it would have lasted quite a bit longer.

I'll be switching off of 5w30 now that I feel my engine has been fully broken in(about 5 or 6 thousand miles). Going to look into 10w30 and 0w40. NE Winter might make me use 5w30 one more time though.

Or those people at Mazda figured Ford would make a really good scapegoat and no one could ever prove who's fault it was. "Oh ****, we fucked up. Hurry up and blame Ford before they buy Mazda Shares again and we have to pretend to like them."

Has anyone used Castrol R30 as a premix, maybe some one with some knowledge of compatibility can shed some light on the possibilities of using it.Us older guys will know why I ask.
