Pre-order Sales Beginning 8 January

I received a call today from my salesman at the local Mazda Dealership. I was invited to come complete the paperwork for my RX-8 later this week. It seems that Mazda will open pre-order sales for a 5 day period beginning on the 8th and running until the 13th. Then they will not take anymore orders until 7 February. According to him, they will continue this once a month 5 day ordering window for a few months. I asked when I would expect delivery. He told me this first ordering window would yield a car in the June to August timeframe. They are expecting to have all of the info, such as prices, options, etc after the unveiling in Detriot. It is not surprising, but I know much more about the RX-8 than him (largely because of the forum, my interest and my subscription to the Japanese site).

CONFIRM

This is pretty much what my dealer told me on Saturday, except he said they would start taking orders on the 7th after the unveiling of the RX-8 in Detroit. He also mentioned that orders taken in February would be for the second allocation and arrive in September.

so i called my dealer. i asked when he would have all the info on price, package, ordering etc. he said he had it all now and if i wanted to i could place my order today! well i said i couldn't do it today as i needed to show the wife everything and then order in like a week once we decided on color and options. so he say's "okay i can just make copies of everything for you to take and discuss with your wife and you can pick that stuff up today" and i said i would be over in a few minutes. before i could get out the door he called back to apologize because his boss told him he didn't have everything yet and they weren't going to until later in the week. by this i think he ment he wasn't allowed. but he promised to fax me all of the stuff as soon as he had it in his hands later this week. 'ill stop by on wednesday if i haven't heard anything by then.

I called mine this morning, but he had to call me back this afternoon, since it was all news to him - he didn't even seem like he knew there was a MAJOR unveiling happening tomorrow. When he called back, he said that NEXT WEDNESDAY is the day I can place my order. Not very encouraging..Plus, I'm leaving town on Wednesday for 2 weeks. Whatever the real deal is, I may have to send my wife to order in my place. That bites, because I was really wanting to get a good look at the color options before deciding for sure. Maybe I can swing by a dealer in Georgia just to look at colors...

Irvine Mazda hasn't called me either. But trust me, the other dealers are worse. This is the only local dealer that even had a clue what was going on.

Cool!

I received THE CALL this evening with pretty much the same information. I told my salesperson I heard the news. (He seemed a bit surprised, and asked where?) Then I told him I heard part of the news anyway. I kinda thought the first allocation would arrive sooner, but I can wait. I'll just hold my breath...

As I mentioned in this thread, I got the call from our salesman at Mazda South on 12/30. They're getting 12 from the initial batch, and my name has been on the top of their list since before they started keeping one. :D

My Miata is my first and only non-rotary since 1977 - can't wait to return to the fold.

This is my first posting here.

Do any of you folks know if your deposit is refundable or not? And how much are you being asked to put down as a deposit? Just curious. Thanks.

I believe that the amount and refundability is left up to the invidivual dealer. Mazda South has not asked me for a deposit, though that could just be because we're regular customers - this will be our fourth car from them in six years.

Edit: fifth car in four years.

I'm 2nd on the waiting list at Adzam Mazda in Bedford Hills, NY and the $1k deposit is refundable. Though they have not been able to tell me if they will be charging MSRP or possibly more based on "fair market value".

Tribal azn I think the earlyist you could hope for delivery would be at the very end of may, If you are lucky. The word is that most of the first batch will be delivered in June/July.

Just got off the phone with my local (or nearly local) Mazda dealer. The rep I talked to wasn't sure what kind of deposit they would need to put an order through, but the good news is that if I order and don't take delivery they will refund my deposit. I've been very wary of ordering a car sight unseen, but if there is no risk then what the hell!

Ordered mine this morning!

Titanium with black leather - loaded but no nav. $31,100 (MSRP) guaranteed. $500 refundable deposit. #1 on allocation list!!! He looked up my order in the system after we placed it and it appears I am #1 allocation in my city.

Dealer was fairly knowledgeable of the car and pre-order program. Although he did say that Mazda just sent the information to him yesterday. Had to get to the right guy at the dealership the first two salespeople has the "deer in the headlights" look what I came in and asked about the program.

FYI - as of this morning Mazda's dealer order site did not have the link the to internet pre-order info activated. Dealer had to re-enter my info.
