Power Lost? ...

OMG ... very worried now.

This morning on my way to work, I was in 1st gear going up a ramp to exit the parkade, then suddenyl I felt this power lost ... started to think "what's that" for a few seconds ... then both my GF & I smelled something from outside, like something was burning ... car still running ...

So once I got out of the parkade ... I stopped the car, wanna try to find out what's happening, but then thinking ... I couldn't shut off the engine cold, nor am I good at engine or mechanics & stuff ... so I decided to continue ... the car still ran ... smell gone, but I still felt that some of the power was gone ... 1st & 2nd gear rather weak, realy had to push to rev around 4,000 ... I am not sure if it's real or not ... & in Downtown Vancouver ... I couldn't rev high around 9:00am in the morning, so I couldn't test anything ....

So here I am, sitting in my office, worrying sick ... O God ... please keep my Baby 8 safe from harm ... I hope she's OK. I only got her 4 months ago ... Once the engine has cooled down, I will check the engine oil ... or will try to start the engine again ... I hope everything is OK, fingers crossed ...

I think I have been doing everything right, never cold shut off, check engine oil quite regularly, never babied the car ... redline once a week (mayb not enough?) ... & just had major service with Signature Mazda with no surprises ... I just can't figure out what I could have done to the car ...

Thanks Nemesis8.

I have done some searching on the board and found some pretty nasty photos of how it would look ... my last question is: will my Warranty cover that, if it is a bad cat? Many thanks.

Yes, warranty or not, if it's the stock cat it should be covered for 100k regardless.

Cat. Cat's are covered. The problem is, Maz (at least down here) HATES...DETESTS actually 'working' on one's kar. They find 'a answer' to the problem...not 'the' answer.

Good luck

Man ~ ~ ~ I don't know, I checked the engine oil, no problem. Started the car again, no problem, so it's not going to flood ... knock on wood (which was my biggest worry) ... so I was driving it around the neighborhood again, high reving was fine, 5k to 6k the same ... but it's the low ... like when I was entering my office parkade, I was on 1st gear ... about 18 - 20km/hr driving up the parkade ramp ... the car felt weak, just like this morning when I was driving up another ramp ... & rev was under 2,000 ... I am just way too confused right now ... is that normal? I seem to remmeber that it was a bit higher than that. I know guys, maybe I am just worrying too much ... maybe there's nothing wrong with the car.

I will have to redline it tonight, to see if I get the same feel or not. Fingers crossed.

dude, stop driving it. if you can't get over 2k in first something is seriously wrong.

however, if the problem is that you get no power at 2k in 1st or any gear, you're retarded.

My car is OK now, I think. Last night on my way home, I redlined it ... it felt the same. This morning it started problem free. Still ... I would bring it to Mazda just to check for an ease of mind.

Sorry, I guess I didn't explain my situation very well. When I said 2nd gear at 2,000 ... I was only meant to say that it felt like I had to step in more gas than usual to reach 2,000 ... but rev'ing was no problem. Anyway, just wanna make it clear.

there's too much pot in bc. you're paranoid.

But why are you any where near 2k when you're in second? I'm only there if I'm stopping.
Starting near 2k? never. when i shift from 1st to 2nd, i'm at 6k after the shift is completed.
