Smile Power Loss on NA cars might be your SRam Intake

I WAS one of the power loss cases. In short I put Mazda to the task of fixing it. From 37k miles to 70K miles. There are two dealers here. Dealer 1 sold and installed a Short Ram intake on my car at 25K miles. This was one of those services every 2500 miles till 50K. If anyone is interested in hearing more on that battle, PM me.

The resolution was to install the MS CAI. Intake Temps with Typhoon were peaking at 200 at MAF. The MS CAI peaked at 113 at MAF, it was 105 outside. That is 8-10 degree difference! We ran it hard with a Can Scan to monitor LT and ST fuel trim and intake temps. The tech was the best and the only knowledgeable person ever to touch my car. The daily power loss is over. The difference is unbelievable. The sound is mean. Hot days no longer phase it, including AC on full with outside temps at 105. Compression was excellent too.

Tech made a good point. Those Short Ram intakes can only be used if there is an intercooler involved with FI. 80 to 90 degree difference is at the MAF temp is your power loss on NA cars.

My next investments in order: Can Scan, fan mod, radiator, water pump, and any configuration to get heat out of the engine bay.

Could just be the Typhoon, I guess. How do other SR intakes avoid engine bay temps?

I think one has a cover/surround type thing but that might be something custom I'm thinking of. The general description of intakes (for our car) is that they will either add 2-3 horsepower or do nothing/take power away... but good for sound if you like that... So I'm never too surprised to hear someone mention they lost hp from the intake.
