Seriously. I test drove the car once about 1.5 years ago, as well as others that i was looking for. I didnt get anything. Waited about 4 months, and then test drove it again, to make sure it was the car i wanted, and when i drove it, i was definitely not upset with the power. EVILBADA, what car did you have before the 8 that makes you think the 8 is slow?

Uh OK, he's pushing 160 more hp than you so it's not that big of a deal. Who in their right mind would buy a piece of crap vette or mustang??? Maybe if your 40+ years old and don't care about performance...

Ha, I'll take a used c5 or 05 mustang over an evo anyday. Try 30+ crowd. Those are'nt toy boy cars like the evo. His Fd would'nt even be legal by todays standards. Not to mention high maintenance which would automatically cancel out any mileage gains. He's probably put 10g into it just to get his 363 rwd hp. I'd rather wait a few years and get a used C6 Vette. Until then, the others don't interest me. I much prefer the 8 for now.

I love my 8 as well, but as far as "American muscle cars" go, they make poor use of their displacement for the power they are pushing, the majority have crappy styling that some people actually like, generally are heavy, and outside of a straight line don't handle for crap. I can buy two Evos for the price of the C5 and it would give that vette a run for its money with the exception of top speed.

Ahhh, but not the C6. Still I could'nt handle owning one Evo much less two. Give me a MX-5 and an rx8 and I'll be happier than 2 pigs making love in the mud.

I just by my 8. I love it alot. Never will sell it for evolution. Evolution is ugly car. you can do 3 rotor engin in your 8 too.

Do you know how much work and money is involved with a 3-rotor install?

Sorry if you took my post as a slap on the 8, not meant that way. Glad to hear your car is getting decent gas mileage. There's no doubt the 8 is more refined than the FD, I can admit that. It has to be since it's really the flagship, upper end car that Mazda has to sell since their isn't a Millennia anymore. Outdated, no way, I'll take the suspension set up anyday compared to the 8. I love the DSC the 8 has, but turn it off, a driver will be much faster in the 7 than the 8. Turn it on and I bet it about even with the 8 being easier to driver fast...why, hardly no torque to get you in trouble in the middle of the turns. Glad you love your 8, I currently just like ours and will never replace the TRUE driving satisfaction I get in my FD. The looks of the FD are in no way outdated, in fact if most people were honest on this board, they would say the FD looks better than the 8, but to each his own, I know which one I prefer. Also, what's great is I don't have to be legal by today's standards, since it all it has to do is pass the standards for it back then so that argument is a moot point, not my fault it gets stricter and stricter every year.

Tim

for what its worth, i'm avg. 18.5mpg with a high of 23.5 and a low of 16.4.

and i'll definately agree that the fd is still a great car (and i would love to have one), even when compared to cars 12+ years newer. it still has a great style, but honestly i do prefer to the 8 to the 7, especially the interior.

wait...aren't we supposed to be talking about the evo?
meh, don't do it! sure its faster, but boy is it butt-ugly.

if you want the 8 to be faster, take it down to PR. they really know how to get performance out of the 8 down there.

i test drove both the Subaru STi and the Mitsubishit evo. both cars are unconfortable as hell, the evo looks good on the outside, but the interior sucks, same goes to the sti. the reason i chose the 8 is cause its strong car confortable, looks good and has enough power. its teh perfect balance. the evo and Sti sure they got almnost 300 whp but you cant drive them for over 1 hour without you *** hurting. i got me an wrx for the winter cause i plain love awd turbos. but i have to say never would go to a evo for an rx8.

if i do a trade it be a RS4 audi or S4 nothingn less. i hate hoopties and the evo and sti are the most expensive hoopties outhere

Tim, you got me wrong. I wanted an fd in the 90's in the worst way just because of the way it looked inside and out. It's still The most beautiful mouthwatering 2 seater around. I was refering to technological advancements and comfort emnities developed since the 90's in modern sportscars. If it were'nt for that the rotary would have died with the fd model in this country. Now the legend can live on in a modern format and further developed for the future. I love rotary cars and mazda has a handle on it.

Amen to that. Just to honest, our car is getting better gas mileage with every tank. Just got back from filing it up and this tank we got 18.32 miles per gallon so its getting better like people have stated on here before. I think we'll be hitting the 20 mpg mark soon so that's fine with me. The wife is in love with the 8 and like most, doesn't care about it's MPG.

About the EVO, hell get it if that's what your into. I, like most here, don't like the styling (interior or exterior) and although you would be getting a little boost in performance it's a trade off for the overall driving experience you get with an 8.

The only reason I don't think you should get an EVO or STI is a new revised version comes out so soon, it makes your car outdated.

Go for the evo. If you are waiting on the PTP kit, you might be waiting on awhile. I know they will make a quality product, but just don't expect it any time before mid next year. Since you want to beat the high school kits with modded sti, mustangs, and evos, go ahead and get an evo and have some fun. Peace.

im surprise mugatu and ike didn't mention anything about crossfires yet lol.

Evo doesn't look bad at all and handles just as great, I say go for it if you can afford it. MR should be a lot more expensive than a rx8 though. Every car does have it's drawbacks, not any car is without it's issues. Good luck with dealing with mitsubishi customer service, my brother has a MR and the service dept. sucks major dick then again mazda isn't that far off except for Burlingame mazda.

....i just built an 8 and added every option available and it only added up to just under $37k. did you buy yours in canada?

.:edit:.
i guess there are some accessories that you can buy for the car that aren't included in build-a-car app on mazda's website. so if you bought every single option available, or maybe bought some mazdaspeed parts, then i could see how that could get up to that much.

I just drove the 06 evo MR version today, and I must say I love the car..
I actually like the looks of the new evo alot.
Interior is crappy but it doesnt' bother me really.

So I will try to sell the 8 and get that evo asap.
thanks for your input.

Classic! At least you allowed some people to call the Evo as pos econobox and ugly to make themselves feel better

Have fun with the new car.

I like the EVO alot but it looks too immature. Sorry, but sometimes image is something that's important in what you drive also. Can you imagine driving up to an important meeting in a rocketship car?
