not really, but it is an uneven sound..... not quite a sputter, though. normal idle is about 700 and when it runs like this it increases to 1000.

Where in MA are you?

I have no idea what "a six cylinder with a split manifold" sounds like. An exhaust leak? What about it makes it sound like a 6cyl vs any other car? (I truly don't know)

Any better description? Tied to RPM? Metal on Metal? If so, what kind of metal, how solid or flaky would it be (metal on tin, sheet metal, steel rods, etc... all sound different)? OR does it sound like a air/gas sound? Fluid sound?

If you can't record it, you have to give us ALOT more to go on.

i am on cape cod. i'll try to come up with a better description. it seems to lose power a bit in the higher gears. when i get on it in the lower gears it seems normal. it's just hit 70k if that is any help. i appreciate your input.

do you have any mods?
When did you last change plugs/coils?
Have you checked your cat converter?

At what rpm's are you roughly losing power?

there are no mods. plugs about two years ago..coils the same. i have not checked the cat. i am not much of a mechanic and there is a lot that i don't know, but i can tell you that this is, without a doubt, the best all around car i have ever owned. i also have a 97 miata. i have driven nothing but mazdas for the past 25 years and they have all been good cars. again, thank you for your advice.

Send a PM to Altspace. He is on the Cape as well, and should be able to help you out with a sound diagnosis.

If you were closer to RI I'd drop by to have a look myself.
