Possible new RX8 owner here.
Hey,
I'm new to the site and loving it already. I am a Moderator on a big Audi site and have decided to move on from my car. I am either going to be getting an 05 RX8 or G35. I've just been trying to see what the cars are all about. I've seen all the likes and dislikes so far and I am leaning towards the RX right now. I am just hoping I make the right decision. If there is anything else you guys can think of that will push me ver the edge let me know. I had a ton of mods done to my Audi and I'm sad to see her go, but hoping the RX will bring another fun ride. Here are a few pics of the Audi in all her glory.

No I haven't yet. I drove the G35 last weekend, and I am suppose to go test the RX8 this Sat. I liked the power of the G35 but it felt terribly stiff to me. Although I have C/O's on my Audi the ride was so much better on the ay home.

When you drive one you will be amazed at the smoothness everywhere. Don't just drive it hard, but also try a slow glide. There is enough smooth power down low to just glide along with slow traffic, or downshift to get the reves over 4~5K and go for it. I commonly push it to ~5k in 1st and 2nd, then (as up to city speed) relax and shift to 4th then to 6th. The electric power steering is great, the doors give you so much room. etc.

Hi, LIVEVIL. The RX-8 is not a horsepower king, but the handling is superior.
You might be interested in this thread on comparisons of the 8 and the G35.

am I confused or did they have some specs off in that video?, they claimed it was a 2.0 ltr. rotary, and that it didn't have perfect 50/50 weight distribution.
man that show if crap compared to Top Gear IMO. :P

Watch the top gear vid, you can see Clarkson pushing the 8 to it's limits. Very cool, I didn't know the 8 was so much fun drive... until I got one. :D
Here's a link to several vids about the 8:

Oh and nice rims on the Audi.

You ask which one to get on an RX-8 board - I wonder what the answer you would expect here :D
I like the design and looks of both cars (the G35 is much nicer looking than the Z). I think the interior of the 8 is nicer and if you ever have to carry rear seat passengers they will be happier with the 8's extra doors. The handling of the 8 is better, but car is not for everyone. No torque means a lot more work for the driver - get caught in the wrong gear and it is SLOW. Also a lot of rotary only problems - like really bad bad mileage (some here are getting 12-15 mpg) and motor flooding problems (engine must be fully warmed up before it is shut off). It is not for everyone, that is for sure.
The G35 coupe has always enjoyed really nice resale value as well. In fact the lease guide residual for a 3yr 36k mile lease is outstanding: 61% . The RX-8 ALG number is 49%, the 350z is 51%, and the S2000 is 57%. So the lease banks expect the G to retain a lot more of its value than the 8, followed close behind by the S. Of course, all of this is speculation - but I do know there are lots of unsold 04 8s sitting on dealer lots right now and Mazda is doing $4k in rebates to try to move them. That does not bode well for resale. The only bright spot (if you can call it that) is the problems at the plant in Japan should mean fewer 05 cars here.
You have to buy the one that speaks to you, so go drive them and see. If you can put up with the poor MPG and other rotary odd-ness - most of the motoring press would tell you to get the 8. I would go drive an S2000 as well - a lot like the 8 with no back seat, but a drop top. Also, try to find a used 8 with several thousand miles on it to test - not a new one (same for the S2000). You really can't tell what it can do unless you wind it up and that is better done in a broken in car.

For more past g35 vs rx8 threads, see:
RX-8 vs G35, which to buy?
A few thoughts about G35 vs. RX8
As I stated before, my friend has a G35C and he gets 1 mpg better than I. I like the 8 better, but if they were the same price it might be a different story. The 8 is definately funner!
We need you to hook up the 8 like your A4.

I swapped cars with my buddy who has a G35C for a couple hours. Let's just say I was happy to get back into my 8. The G feels like you're driving ON it. The 8 feels like you're driving IN it.
Also, you CAN fit passengers that are over 6 feet tall in the back of the 8, but it's REALLY, REALLY hard in the back of the G. I'm 6' 2'' and was stuck back there for about an hour before with a crooked neck. Man that sucked.
Very nice auddi!! :D

^^ I'm none of the above ^^ Thanks for asking none the less.
I don't mind any room in the back. I only ever have my girl in my car, and no one sits in the back of the Audi. I actually have 2 SUV's and a show truck aswell, so I use those for trips with more than a few people.
