Popping noise from intake

I have a 04 RX8 Auto and i have a WR Secret Weapon intake with the Ram Air Kit. I noticed that once the engine warms up and i take of fast or the RPM's get up higher it starts to make a popping, crackling noise, it did this before i put the ram air kit on it and thought it would help but it doesnt. Anyone have any ideas on what it is or how i can prevent it? And anyone have any 0 to 60 times for a 4 speed auto with paddle shiftrs, mine i slow and just wondering if there is something wrong.

mine makes like a raspy noise also after it warms up at higher rpms, 3rd gear is the worst I noticed. I have a K&N typhoon ver. 2 and Im in an MT. I dont think its anything to worry about if you still have power. Run a compression test if you feel your car is slow.

I have a KN V2 and this was happening to me a lot to..what it can be is M.I.A.C or (marbles in a can) that's like the nickname for detonation. When ever my car would heat up a lot that's all i heard coming from the intake. Sometimes i would think that the engine was gonna blow..lol..so i would pull over to the side of the road. Try and do the Throttle Bypass Mod..this may help. It helped me a lot for sure.

Street racing is bad. As for the compression test, I would take it to a dealer.

There you go..i hooked it up..lol.. Basically you remove the intake..remove the top line on the throttle body..remove the bottom line..close the 2 openings and the just put the top hose and bottom hose together. Also try and take it to the dealer if your still in warranty they might be able to do the MSP-16 reflash. That helped also.

take the intake off and re-install it, as for beeing slow theres 2 reasons 1) u bought a rx8 which isnt known for its amazing speed, 2) you bought a AT rx8 which is even slower

kevin, you're missing one more point.
He bought a 2004 which comes with the super slow 4-port engine, 4-speed tranny.

There is nothing wrong with your car, 04 Auto 04 port 4 Speed RX8 is KNOWN to be slow.

For your problem, take the Weapon-R garbage out, put it back to stock, try to find out where the noise is coming from, I mean the *EXACT* location, not just *oh I heard this popping noise when Im driving*

then come back.

you're not being specific enough about your issue. Was your car always "slow", or has it been losing power just recently? What is "it" that is making the popping? Is it coming from the exhaust side or engine side? When does the pop occur, during acceleration, or between shifts? What was the ambient temperature and what octane gas are you using?? So many things it can be.

The throttle bypass mod supposedly addresses possible detonation (which sounds like loud pops and "marbles in a can" sound on acceleration from the engine), by routing the coolant around the intake air. I don't believe it will make much difference because the coolant doesn't heat the incoming air that much anyways. If your problem really is detonation, using higher octane gas (not 87!) should solve your issue.

and yes the auto is slow. See this comparison between the auto and manual RX-8:

Ok i use premium, 93 octane only, i do not lose power, it just makes popping, crackling noise, almost like it has a hole in the exhaust, but it does not have a hole, i just started drivng his car so i dnt know how it performed before i got it nd that is why i was wondering if they were really that slow. If anyone hs any 0-60 times that would be great for an auto. And it does not make the noises when i first start driving, t only does when the engine warms, the emp and oil are both in the center, where they should be. I do not have the stock intke, i bought this wrecked and it was broke and in pieces.
