I think the spoiler definitely adds sportiness. I like the stock spoiler quite a bit. The MS spoiler is much on the aggressive side--it has to be paired with the MS kit or some other more aggressive kit.

I need to add a spoiler and I am debating whether to go OEM or add the euro-style lip.

Not sure if it aids performance but spoiler seems to help in high wind areas and when there are cross winds on bridges.

Factory spoiler looks good

Home builts are sometimes startling

I like the factory spoiler because it is a great handle for opening the trunk.

European OEM lip spoiler is the one that's discussed by the book (that causes a drag coefficient drop). The OEM non-MS wing as equipped in the USA probably does not have that effect.

So it's settled. The lip spoiler is the only one that is both attractive & effective.

O.K. So I have to get a lip spoiler. That is the one I like the looks of best anyway. Just gotta find one that is not CF, and comes in Velocity Red Mica.

I don't like the stock spoiler, I think it ruins the lines of the car when you look at it from the side. The MS spoiler looks a little better installed on the car, but only because it looks separate from the car, which is kind of a mixed bag as far as aesthetics go.

The only one I really like is the lip spoiler, but of course that's not an option in the US.

I just re-read the book and it doesn't say what type of spoiler it was referencing, as it simplily said "an optional rear spoiler lowers it further to 0.30." (p.55) But if I have to pick, I do believe it is the US OEM spoiler they are talking about, since the lip spoiler doesn't really change the car's rear profile that much.

Either way, 0.31 is still a good number. By contrest, the Ferrari 599 has a drag coefficient of around 0.345-ish, and the stock Nissan 350Z is 0.30.

I just spent a bunch of money on something else, and can't get that one right now. I do want it though.

Well said, StewC625. Since every damn jellybean compact out there now seems to come with a useless spoiler it just makes the Rx-8 look more like all the other cars out there. I think "spoiler" is an appropriate name for the thing. I don't want one on my car unless it can be shown to make a substantial positive difference at street-legal speeds. And the huge-*** wings on street cars? Stupidest thing I've seen on any car, not just the 8.
