Eh, they look functional to me. I still haven't been able to confirm this, but I think I remember reading (and by looking at the pictures of the engine) that this was a dry sump system, but I could be wrong..

It seems we all need to grow up a little. If you like the car; buy it. If you don't; don't buy it. Sure it's not perfect, but then no car will ever be. I think a change of attitude though can go a long way towards making the car more "perfect". I feel the car is perfect for me and I enjoy every aspect of it. The little quirks it has just makes it more unique. Ahhhh, some people will never be satisfied.

TybeeRX-8, you base your knowledge on what is and isn't a sports car on owning a Miata alone? i'm sure it's a fun little car but have you owned a sports car that had at least 200hp?

The Grand Touring package has always been listed with only the driver's seat having power. Shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone in the pre-order program.

Well, I don't feel "owned", "rebutted", etc. I started this thread as "Picky". That was meant to mean small nits that I found on inspection of the car. I was aware that the passenger seat wasn't powered, but I didn't know it did not have the lumbar adjustment.
I've seen lots of comment re the vents, but it is unclear if they are from anyone who owns one yet. maybe Rotorboy (who I know has his now) can enlighten me. It was his car I saw.
I don't know about the oil cooler(s) or a dry sump oil system. Just never seen it mentioned anywhere...brochures, MadzaUSA, the "Book", etc. I do know the oil filter is on top (under the plastic cover), but that's it.
As for the comment about owning a sports car and the Miata, of which I've had two, I started out with an MGB (horrible little car), several VWs (including a Formula V many years ago), two BMWs (sports sedans), five different Benzes (including an SLK, CLK 430). I autox my car and will do so with the RX8. And I do volunteer work for SCCA. So, I think my experience more than qualifies me to comment.
On another note, the cars I saw did not have the spare tire kit (which I didn't get either), but they do come with jacks and a complete set of towing/tie down rings! These are all neatly arranged in the trunk.:D

More evidence the vents are functional

"All ducts and opening[s] are functional."
The book's not exactly an owner, but seems authoritative on the subject. It certainly corroborates actual owner's statements found elsewhere in these forums that these vents really vent heat from the engine compartment.

I always wondered how exactly I would know where the fender strakes go, but as you can see from the first un-doctored picture there are 2 breaks in the functional part of the vent. I pick up my car at 9:30am tomorrow and I can't wait to play!!!!

LOL, yeah, that's good. I had a good laugh with that. Arms raised in defense?? You think poor little 'ol me would lash out in defense?! I actually thought most of my posts were lame questions and crap... You got to admit though, the Mantis on that cartoon is the Man!! er,.. Mantis, or MantisMan.... whatever. I do tend to agree with many of his thoughts. The world would be perfect and blissful.... if there wasn't any humans. :D
