3800 pounds

One might think that if you over-estimate the weight, the reported HP/TQ figures might be skewed higher than actual.

Any chance your software will allow you to update the weight value and recalculate the results, after-the-fact?

Agreed, HP & TQ is only rough estimate off these data. Too bad, the current software version didn't allow you to make changes to the weight after the run. I will have to do another mid-night mission run with 3130 lbs and see how it goes

I'm pissed, i typed about 2 pages of information and i lost it... basically i'll say this, for you non g-tech-ers, entering the weight has nothing to go with the accelerations times, just the horsepower numbers... If you go back and enter the correct vehicle weight you will get a lower horsepower and torque number. and with my expierence of using the g-tech over the years, you have to modify the vehicle weight that you enter or your numbers will not be true... You have to enter the vehicle weight pounds, not the GVWR on the sticker in the door... I didn't get a chance to get too technical with the g-tech and the Rx-8, but i did get to play with the DSC on, off, completely off, so i would know how it affected the car. Then i played with clutch dumps at various rpm's and slipped the clutch a few times. After about 10 burnouts making lots of noise at 2:30am it was best to head out and call it a morning before someone called the cops for a noise/reckless driving complaint.

RX-8 performance numbers

been quietly reading all the dyno threads and have to admit that i've thought about getting my deposit back from the dealer - but i will wait for word from Mazda before doing that.

i am wondering if anyone has brought their RX-8 to the track to see if it can pull off the sub-15 second quater miles that the magazines managed to pull?

how about 0-60 times with a g-tech or something?

anyone?!

hercules use a g-tech to get 0-60 times, posted results in another thread, got around 6.6, but noted 6.3 as easily attainable.

it has also been discovered that there is nothing wrong with the engines, as they are putting out 240p (detuned for some reason) in the mazda racing series, showing the problem has nothing to do with the mechanics of the engine, but rather a ECU issue, most likely fuel maps

I dont understand. Does the Star Mazda Renesis use the same intake setup? Couldn't these power losses be an airflow problem in the tertiary path in US production models?

No, the intake on the Star cars is totally different ... but also less high tech. Then again they don't have all the smog stuff that a production car does. Still, the motor itself can make power ... we know that for sure. It's the stuff surrounding it that's the question right now.

Just bought the August issue of the Australian Wheels magazine where they compared the RX-8 to the 350Z. They chose the RX-8...concluding paragraph on the car was:

"The Mazda is simply delicious. Might as well add taste to the list of senses it stimulates and satisfies..."

Anyway, back to the performance figures, this is a slightly detuned Aussie version at 177kW (abt 235 bhp).

Acceleration in 3rd/4th/5th/6th
80kmh-120kmh

RX-8: 4.6/7.2/9.0/11.0
350Z: 4.1/5.3/6.6/9.6

RX-8 / 350Z
0-60kmh 3.1 / 3.0
0-80kmh 4.8 / 4.4
0-100kmh 6.4 / 6.4
0-120kmh 9.1 / 8.3
0-140kmh 12.0 / 10.8
0-160kmh 15.7 / 14.1

0-400m 14.8 / 14.3
@155kmh / @164kmh

Times were taken at Oran Park in the dry, temperature between 8 to 11 degrees celcius.

Pretty decent times for the RX-8, eh?

those are just about what hercules got

whats the hp on the Z down there? is it 280 (i believe) like up here (US Spec)

0-62 @ 6.4 is probably around 6.2 0-60
i think herc got a 6.6 but said 6.3 is easily possible in good/better conditions

C&D got 5.9 for the 8, dont know about the Z

Yep, the Z rates at 206kW in Oz, which is abt 280 bhp.

They launched the RX-8 at 6000+ rpm.

Do you guys have corners out there ?

Why the obsession in straight line racing ? Where is the skill in that ? It is a straight power measure - Booooorrrring.

RX8 is the wrong car I think , if your sole aim is to get to the horizon from standstill....

Sure it's the wrong car... If i wanted straight line, i'd build a dragster. But if you had the chance to take a demo Rx-8 home overnite and had a G-tech lying around, wouldn't you have some fun?

The point here trying to proof is not whether if the 8 has 250 bhp or can beat the 5.9 in 0-60. Probably more to see if the figures claimed by Mazad was true. It's just human nature.

Don't know if anyone still cares.... but I came back from the bookstore today and pulled some data off JDM publications on the RX-8.

Drivers Magazine, 06/20/03

RX8 Type S (250hp 6MT) RX-8 Type E (210hp 4AT)
0-100km ---------6.83------------9.10--------
0-400m ----------14.9-----------16.55--------

Raw data is not that useful by itself, so I pulled another magazine to put these numbers in perspective.

CG (Car Graphics) 06/03
---------RX-8 Type S--------G35C*--------350Z Touring*
0-100km -------6.5----------6.6-----------6.3------------
0-400m --------14.6--------14.6----------14.4-----------

Not to shabby~

G35C: Nissan Skyline Coupe 350GT
350Z Touring: Nissan Fairlady Z Type T
