Thats what I hear. But I guess it really depends on who installs it.

Lots of ways to disable lojack

one way is to jam the radio signal, its not hard, just a small transmitter with about 100 ft radius will do.

The other way is to drive it into an area with 2-3 walls, say, an underground parking lot, or somewhere far.

LoJack box could be spotted pretty easily, but usually what theifs will do is they will find the LoJack box first, cuz Lojack has a feature that if the car battery has been disconnected, it will phone home right away, not good for theifs.

check this website.

this might be more effective than lo-jack.

I forget the name, but there is a system that allows you to track your car from any computer, will text you if it moves at all, and you can even shut it off from your computer.

I'm surprised that you have a choice. Up here, my insurance requires my car is equipped with lo-jack.... Plus, they give me an insurance rebate.
But then again, I do live in the car-theft capital of North America.
IMHO, it's a good thing to have.

That would mean that the crooks missed the other 2 lojack boxes. All 3 work independently. And even the vehicle owner is not allowed to see where the boxes go.

I have had 3 cars jacked 1 with lojack 2 with just a alarm thing about it is they start the trace when you notice the car is gone if your sleep they can get what they want by time you call it in( that was my case)

The units are hidden quite well. Even I don't know where they are.

LoJack Early Warning calls you at any/all numbers you choose if the car moves without the fob. (It works -- I forgot to give them the fob when I took it for servicing once. Within a couple minutes I got a call on my cell.) Then you have to call LoJack to confirm, and they activate it. From that point they say they average finding the car in about an hour.

In this area, I wanted the peace of mind.

Lo jack would be good, but if they really wanted to steal your car for more than a joy ride they'd just tow it. Personally I'd be cheap and pull a few key relays or fuses and shove them in the glove box or something. I doubt a thief would take the time to find their locations or be technical enough to figure it out. If you kept it in a baggie out of the car they'd go nowhere fast...but then if you lost the bag you'd be in the same boat.

IMHO, if you're paranoid the thing to do is to never leave personal valuables (including emotional investment in mods) in the car.

Lojack won't keep your tires from being slashed, as someone reported earlier in this thread. Seems like its benefit would be lower insurance rates, cutting crime in general, and maybe recovering the car before theives had a chance to make a mess.

That and the fact you live in So Cal.

By the time you find your car missing:
You've been sleeping for 8 hrs.
Been in the movies for 2 1/2 hrs

The range is only about 90 miles.

By that time it is chopped or in Mexico! Your only 80 miles from da border.

Besides who wants an RX 8 anyhow? It's not a 100k car, it's a slow dog.

Ask Ike he'll tell you how slow it is.

You'd be better off movung to a better neighborhood.

Slashed tires are from someone you know. Ever try to slash a tire?

Really? I didn't know they work off the FOB key.

Hell for 4oo bucks do it.

But I bet you find out it's a lot more money than that.

That would set off the LoJack sensor. It activates when the car is moved.

I heard that when the cops in this area get a LoJack alert, they actually make a game of it, seeing who can find the car first.

Will the Arlington radar/laser cops drop their regular duties to join in?

If so, where can I get a LoJack alert generator?

what I would do is get some ignition switches and that club thing that goes on your brakes. And lower insurance rates. Frankly, I don't think lojack works at all. I work for a company that moves cars cross country. One of the customers vehicle ended up being delivered a couple days late. Customer claimed his car is in Mexico and he said he got that info from the lojack operator. I told him his car is 40 miles away from his house. 1 hour later the customer got his car.

didnt they get the fingerprint guy to check out the car and take fingerprints and samples of DNA? im thinking that at least the prostitutes DNA would be on the outside of the condom (unless it was a gigolo).

the RX8 is small enough as it is and to actually attempt procreate in it is a feat in itself!

No one checked for fingerprints. Like I said, no one even took the time to look through the random crap that was in the car. We had to dispose a CRACK PIPE and someone's dirty panties. =/

What kind of friend does that

I'd say get it, if you can afford to get one it leaves you no good reason to not get it.
