In my best explanation, it "spider-webbed" the paint, even though the bumper returned to normal. Do you think another car backed into yours, just not hard enough to cause more damage?

We have a winner! Backed into a poll with my old "millenium silver" corolla lol and although there was no damage it spidered just like that (not as severe though).

WOOHOO WOOHOO! I Win I Win :D
umm...What did I win?

As for the MS front bumper, is there a body shop around that you trust? You could get an estimate for repair, but make a deal with the owner to order the MS bumper(painted), and let your insurance buy it for you.

The only one I've ever dealt with is @ the dealer where I purchased the car. Never hurts to ask.

Calling the ins. company today.

The scratches do, yes. But, it would have taken a mastiff to cave in and crack the bumper...

Thats wjat I thought. They looked like stress cracks in the clear coat. from severe flexing of the soft body when the paint is cold.

texas, if you have to pay for this out of pocket, you might try to find a bumper repair specialist. Kind of the bumper equivalent of the paintless dent removal. The bumper guys fix tears and cracks in the bumper covers. They also can do paint touch up but you might need the whole nose repainted.

Good luck.

One more reason my 8 will never, ever be parallel parked anywhere.

Talked to ins company yesterday and they said they'll cover it. Getting the estimate done today.

is it anywhere else then on the bumper? It almost looks like someone hit the car, possibly to remove ice. and the clearcoat cracked from the impact.

hmmm.....against all other recommendations...do not claim on your insurance..I do bumper repairs of that nature every day for around $130. Try to go into your local detail shop and have them buff the scratches. If they go away, its not spider webbing and the paint is fine (cant tell from the pics) then all you have to repair is the crack.....bout a 4 hour job for a paint guy....fix the crack then shoot just the part under the edge of the lip. save you some cash and will turn out fine....
