Cool Over the cliff I goooo...

Don't worry, not in my 8! I don't have one quite yet, but that's about to change. My banker thanks you!

For my first post I really want to thank the mods and everyone on this site for their enthusiasm for what seems like a great car. I sure hope it is, because I signed the deal last night and got financing ok'd today. I'm picking up my new Yellow - MT - Sport Pkg on Saturday!

There were only three yellows left within 150 miles with both the 6MT and cloth seats (what I wanted) so I jumped on it. I'm glad I learned (here of course) that the color's being discontinued for '05. We yellow owners will soon be as rare as, um, as our personalities deserve. :D

The dealer is doing all TSB's, the air bag recall and the M flash tomorrow, so I should be ready to zoom. Having them all printed out in my hand while talking to the sales manager let them know I was a well prepared buyer. Thanks, AGAIN to this site.

My first stop (other than for more gas ) will be at Home Depot or Lowes to pick up some stuff to DIY some oil cooler and radiator opening screens. Dumb oversight on Mazda's part, but very glad I learned about it and how to avoid a problem from, you guessed it, this AMAZING site.

This will be my third rotary (two first gen RX-7's) but first sports car of any kind since 1988. Two dealer visits and a test drive did me in (you knew that). This car is so much better than the RX-7's whose memories I still love. It's also somewhat better than the Taurus and Cherokee I galumphed around in since then.

Thanks again to all, gotta zzzoooooooooooommmmmm!!!

Heh. Mods. I finally am doing something beyond stock...just purchased about $1800 worth of goods...can't wait to get it all on!

Congratulations on the car, you will love it more as each day goes by. I've put almost 5000 miles in mine in under 3 months...d'oh!

What you mean is:

Over the cliff of automotive mediocrity and into the ocean of excellence that is the RX-8.

Enjoy the ride. There is no going back.

Not just America Rob :-)

Spinnin, I was gonna go for the Cancer Yellow as well... was a tough decision for me, ended up with the Titanium Grey.

Elara,
I'll post pics as soon as the car's in my driveway, after it stops raining from the two hurricanes of course.

UberJumper,
"Cancer Yellow"? Well at least my car will stand out from all the "File Cabinet Grey" Camry's in the parking lot! :D

Hey, I was nice in my first post. Whad'ja expect, perfection?

Spinnin:

Oh sorry, I didn't mean that in a derogatory way... see I'm recovering from pretty major cancer surgery, and the first thing I thought when I saw the Yellow model was Lance Armstrong's yellow wristband/wear yellow campaign. I almost bought the yellow for that reason actually.

^^ Hey, yeah. Live Strong! I will dedicate my next ride in the auto jaune to your recovery

As a fellow Yellow/MT/sports owner I must congratulate Spinnin' on fine taste.

UberJumper,
I totally missed that meaning, obviously. Best of my wishes and prayers for your speedy and full recovery. Be like Lance, but with rotary power! I will drive my yellow with that message in mind.

All,
The dealer tried to slip their bank's "loan processing fee" in after we signed a contract, and then add it to the financed amount. This would have raised the total cost by nearly $250.

I told them to eat the fee - it was their bank after all - or I'd finance elsewhere. They replied we were too close to invoice on the car for them to absorb the fee. So I financed elsewhere. :D

Good news:
I got a 0.3% lower APR for the same terms. Instead of $250 more I'll be paying out nearly $250 less.

Bad news:
The deal won't go through in time for pickup tomorrow and I'm busy until Tuesday evening. No 8 until then!

Gonna a be a long (and rainy) weekend. Best of luck to our FL friends.
