Original owner of my RX8 took off muffler??

So I have a used RX8 that is great. Came with some mods including AEM CAI...also the car is very loud and aggressive because the guy removed the mufflers. All there is under the car is pipes running from the cat, bending, and out the back. Looks like the mufflers were cut out and a pipe was welded in place....Seems like it has stock cat. Question is, other than noise, will this setup reduce my HP? Torque? If I decide to switch it back to normal, where is the best place to buy mufflers? Not looking to spend a fortune on a brand new setup...just want to cut down a little on the noise and possibly return some lost power. What do you think?

easiest thing would probably be to just pick up another catback exhaust. You can find used ones on here all the time.

By doing this, he probably gained little to no HP or torque. Used oem catback come up in the for sale section intermittently. Priced from free to $50. If they are close enough, you won't have to pay for shipping. If you have a local Mazda rotary club, check with the people there and see if someone is planning on replacing their catback soon. You could snag their old one. Keep an eye on the NE RX8 Forum.

again, check the 4 sale section, lots of people sell the original OEM ones or even just give them away if you pay for the shipping. That is unless you want to spend money on an after makret one.

I would like to have an aftermarket sound to the exhaust, but not like a lawnmower, like it is now... What kind of difference is there between an aftermarket one like i posted or the OEM?

Aftermarket exhaust will be a bit louder than the OEM, and in almost all cases much deeper sounding.

I hope the original owner did not weld it to the cat pipe. When you look under the car do you see two spring loaded bolts that connects the connector pipe to the OE cat pipe?

Doesn't look like it is welded...This car is so loud with this setup it is ridiculous....People have told me they think a harley is coming their way...It has a cool sound to it, not high and not too low. Going under bridges on the highway it echos so loud, sounds like a fighter jet driving under the bridge. It is really cool, I just know the cops are gunna get me for it.
