Option Packages?

I would like to know what everyone would like in their RX-8.

I've seen so far that people like the Grand Touring Package because it comes with all the options plus the leather.

So tell me what you think.

I'd like to get the grand touring, but because I can't have the sunroof (need the headroom since I'm 6' 6"), I have to go with the sport package. Thinking of this, I don't mind that too much - I was gonna upgrade the speakers and add a subwoofer anyway so I don't need the Bose system and I'll probably add aftermarket leather (which will be better than stock). The rest of the GT package is something I can live without.
The only one thing that bothers me is that only the power seat has lumbar support, not the manual that comes with the sport package. Oh well...

The wife and I got the touring because we(she) did not want leather. Optional power cloth seats would have been nice.

She was concerned leather would be to hot in summer and to cold (even w/ seat warmers)in winter. Another concern of hers was the leather ripping if she hauled one of our dogs in it.

Sport for me. I wanted the HID headlights, but neither wanted nor needed any of the electrical and leather gewgaws that come with the Touring and GT packages. If the HID's had been available as a separate option, I would have taken a base+HID's.

Sport for me.

Sunroof - had one on last car, never used it

Bose stereo - you've got to be kidding me

Leather seats - had them before, didn't like them - too hot in summer

Fancy rearview mirror - cool, but unnecessary

I just found that I could easily do without the extras in the Touring and GT packages, and save money to boot. If I was made of money, I might have considered the other packages, but still not sure. I feel like the Sport package is more lightweight and it fits all my needs.

That was kinda the way I saw it too- if I was going to spend this much money on a car, I may as well spend just a little more an get all the goodies- only thing I didn't opt for was the navigation, and while I'm kinda regretting that decision, I can just go buy a GPS unit for cheaper, and it will be almost as good. Just couldn't swallow that extra $2k.

I have the grand touring, but wish I had the touring. I just don't like the leather. I seems kind of cheap and I don't think it will hold up well. The cloth seats are more comfortable, too.

Elara:

I don't have the NAV option either, and I'm not regretting it, but I sure would like the 7" flip up LCD screen.. not for nav, for for everything else (READ: Electronic computer gauges!)

When I pre-configured my original car (Max priced Ti), I had a NAV picked... then I thought about the $2k, damn... if I get lost I'd have to pull over at a gas station ANYWAYS...

Never had any doubts about the leather.. had to have it. Didn't care about the sunroof, but now that I have it... I use it all the time... it even looks like a spoiler... I'm sure it acted like one at 136mph.

A former girl friend suggested I got the heated seats to get the girls hot before I got them home.
Maybe I should install them in the back seats, too, with all the controls by the driver's seat. After all, I'm no longer limited to one at a time.:D

Here's how I see it

Sport Package - a must. HID, fog, DSC, TCS, limited slip, 18 in wheels, bigger brakes, sport suspension - worth it!!!! $1100

Touring Package - moonroof and homelink (BOSE eh take it or leave it) $2700 - $1600 more -wow

Grand Touring - leather, power seat $3900 - $1300 more

If I were on a budget ans STILL buying a new 8 I would go for the Sport Pkg.

THe next question is how important is leather?

The 3 big ticket items left are leather, radio and moonroof.

The NAV system is beautiful but it is $2000 and that is a large sum for something that is more for trips or use in unfamiliar areas - depends on where you drive.

Actually, the $1100 MT Sport package only includes the HID's, fogs, and DSC/TCS - all the rest is already included in the base MT package.

The AT Sport package, which does include all the goodies in your list, is $1800.

So it's not quite the bargain you suggest, but it's still my choice.
