Operating Temp...

Anyone else notice that their RX-8 runs best when the outside temp is between 65 to 72 degrees F? The car runs great all the time, but I've noticed that it runs the smoothest when the outside temp is in this range.

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed this?

I'll let you know when the temp gets that low around here and I get a chance to drive it in that range.

Yes, the cars will improve somewhater with the cooler air, but when it gets too cold tire grip goes to crap. So yes, there is sort of a "sweet spot" if you will. This morning, in fact, it was 73F as I drove to the auto garage. My car felt like a rocket. Nice. There's a part of me that says the temp couldn't make THAT much of a difference, but I felt it. I hadn't done anything else to the car...

Ditto that. But that most likely won't be well into late fall/early winter around here

Yes, cooler temps make a huge difference on this car. I also notice this from day to night when the temp drops 20 degrees. I wouldn't think it would make a big difference on a normaly aspirated car, but on the RX8 it does. The Rx8 also has a big difference between cars with the MAF which also has the air temp sensor, as per other threads. I guess that's why we see some people getting 28-30 mpg and higher dyno readings. MazdaManiac has some good information on this as he was one of the first people to experiment and measure readings using a fully controllable air fuel computer.

You think cooler temps make a difference with the RX-8? You should feel what a difference it makes on a 3rd gen RX-7!

Man, when it gets really cool out, those twin turbos really love it. Feels like 25 more hp!
