one reason to hate the yellow 8

Well I can't say I hate my 8, because I love everything about it, but one thing I don't understand is why bugs love it. I seen 4 bees on my car so far, and a few days ago while I was driveing one flew in my car from the moonroof, lucky when I open the window it flew out. Anyone else have insect problems with bright color cars?

Where do you live?

The only time I get bugs on my car is when I'm drying it after a wash. They don't stick of on because of the thin wet layers on the paint.

edit: Mine's a VR

Yup, yellow does attract all kinds of attention, even unwanted attention from the bugs! Happens to my car the most right after a wash too.

Bees are atracted to bright colors and sweet smells, this is how they find pollen in flowers.

Every time I see a yellow RX-8 I like it more and more. It almost looks exotic in some ways.

A yellow car looks just like a giant bumble bee. It's quite obvious they are trying to mate with you. Whatever you do, don't add a black racing stripe or even more bees will try and have their way with you.

Yes. Lightning Yellow looks so good that it demands everyones attenition. That includes the 15 - 30 bugs that regularly gather on the hood/roof while the car is parked outside. Small price to pay for having a rare "and exotic" color. On the bright side, as soon as you get moving again they're all gone.

The one reason to hate the yellow 8 is because you don't have one and we do.

Yeah, I think your yellow 8 must look like the Holy Grail of pollen...lol. What's funny, yet not so funny...was that I had a bee fly into my car while I was driving (45-50mph) and it landed right on my shirt. So...I all of the sudden was driving like a mad man trying to get it out of the car until it flew out by itself. If a cop saw me he would have thought I was drunk or something.

Gosh...that was a scary 5 sec's...lol

yeah my car is regularly coated in bugs and gnats... my main gripe is that road dust shows so bad.. especially if it's raining off and on, you get streaks down by the door handles.

but the yellow really makes the car stand out.. it looks much cooler than a silver or black or white. I have NO trouble finidng my car in ANY parking lot either... there's been a few times hwre I've met up with people walked outside and said guess which car is mine.

But, they don't offer yellow anymore!

When I had my Beetle out in summer, bees used to get confused by the fake sunflower on the dash. Poor things.

Yup, all manner of flying and crawling six and 8 legged critters LOVE the banana-mobile. I've learned:

1) Not to park outside in the sun on cool fall days - I did this once last fall and had, as best as I could count, more than 400 lady bugs on my car ... That was funny! I still find dead lady bugs now and again.

2) Freshly shined and waxed means just as much to an insect as it does to me.

3) Gnats love it too ... ick ...

4) Strangely, fall Yellow Jackets (they are actually wasps) don't seem to care about it. What do they know?

Ahh, one of the many joys of the Yellow.

Mine, when freshly waxed and on a sunny day will also set off the laser detector in my Passport when the sun hits at the proper angle!
